I tried to support a local carpenter, ( Behind Bells food) by taking a small pine kitchen table I had bought in the auction f0r 20TL. I requested a quote to sand and varnish it and left the table there for the owner to call m e back with the quote. He called me back the next day telling me the table was READY to pick up ! I returned to find the table ready and said that I had required a quote before he started the work.(It was now obviously too late for that) Anyway, I asked him the price for the completed work and he quite calmly stated £100 !!!! I took him by the throat and threatened to castrate him before calming down and telling him that he could keep the table as it was only worth £15 in its present condition!



To cut a long story, I threw 30TL on the floor, put my table in my car and left. So uch for supporting local carpenters !!!!

It is important to point out that the carpenter mentioned in birdman's post is NOT Haci who this thread is about as Haci is based in Alsancak.

Haci has made a couple of items of furniture for us to our own design and we were very pleased with the results and it did not cost a fortune. Give him a try, he is a really nice guy.
