Company accountant has told me that i need to be out of the country for 3 days and that going to the south doesnt count.

However a friend has done exactly this, stating that they were flying from Larnaca, which they didnt, re crossed 3 days later and work permit issued. Which advice is correct?

I went south and waited approx 6 hours !!!! Was a few years ago.

Didn't think they were issueing anymore permits to non- TRNC nationals ????? Have they changed the ruling ???

My husband is mainland Turkish, he has to wait about 2 or 3 days in Turkey.

You are getting confused with work permit and temporary residency permit.

Things must have changed then, last time I renewed mine I crossed the border and came straight back totaltime 3 mins - mind it was nearly 2 years ago - due again soon.

I was just going to say that Deniz1 but you beat me to it.

I NEVER had to cross the border to get my temporary residence permit.

I went over the border and stayed close by so my accountant could call me when everything was done and then came back over. One time though I had to stay over night as they did not process it quick enough!

Get another accountant that knows what he is talking about if I were you.

Not that I have one or even want one but what could you do if your work permit had expired by months and you needed to get another one? This is also assuming that you don't have any temp residency either.

Message 15 - then you would be classed as an illegal immigrant and be punished with a fine when you came to leave the country or get residency or apply again for a work permit. However, if you have a work permit, you have to pay Soysal Sigorta etc. every month by the due date or you are again in punishment (as my accountant tells me)

Only asked due to conversation overheard in a bar - feel sorry for the people now who seem to be caught in a trap as when the work permits were stopped theirs had just run out and now it seems they will have to pay a major fine to get them again, when it was not really their fault, sad. Never even gave the Sigorta a thought but the records of payments must be there as well so there is no real way out unless peopl wait for yet another amnesty. Thanks for the info.

Waddo I dont think what you say is so, if someone has had a work permit there is no problem renewing it, it is NEW work permits that they are not issuing at present, no wonder this board is so bad with misinformation , "overheard it in a bar"
