The Queen had four children and three of 'em have been divorced (so far) ...so it's hard to be TOO sure that her grandchildren will actually make a go of it, isn't it?

If our politicians were as dedicated, hard working, and loyal as our Queen the United Kingdom would still have a pot to p..s in. Even those who are unmoved by the occasion must see that when it comes to Ceremonial, Pageantry, and unbelieveable coordinated team work, involving thousands of people, the British surpass anything any other nation can put together. The TV camera work and the clarity of the pictures were works of art enhancing the whole. Sometimes in these turbulent times it is not easy to feel proud to be British but today was good for my morale.

It was the most brilliant fantastic Wedding day, it does make you feel proud to be British & to be apart of it all. There is no other country that could beat yesterday. Everyone feels so happy for William & Kate, a lot has been learnt from the past & these two know exactly what they are doing. God bless them in their life together as the future King & Queen one day.

Just a passing though, Queen Elizabeth is not just the Queen of England, she is the Queen of Great Britain, which includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland! I also wish the royal couple every happiness. Chris

Why should it end in divorce, these are young people with a different outlook on life, and the Royal family has changed since the days of Charles and Diana. For goodness sake, if you can't find it in your miserable lives to wish them well why not keep your gloom and doom predictions to yourselves. It was a lovely day and just for once people ( well the majority) had something to celebrate instead of the daily diet of death and misery.

Well said Hatts. I think children from divorced parents make a far better go of it. They see the pain they all endured. I loved the day. I didnt move from the TV . Just to see the happiness of everybody, the crowds from all over the world to share the day. It really was a day of celebration. It was a day of total escapisim from the troubles in the world. 2 billion worldwide cant be wrong x

Msg 22 "I think children from divorced parents make a far better go of it. They see the pain they all endured. I loved the day" Sadly children from broken homes are far more likely to suffer from the effects for the rest of their lives than those brought up in two-parent families. If kids see their own parents enjoying a stable and happy relationship then they are more likely to enjoy one themselves and grow up into responsible and confident adults. The real victims of parental break-ups are innocent children. When the split is due to fecklessness, selfishness and inadequacy on the parent/s part this clearly makes them complicit in ruining young and future lives.

have it your way zoots, all I know i have encountered many kids from divorced homes who went onto long lasting marriages, I agree children do need two parents, but looking at kids today they would be happy with one than live in a disrupted relationship.Have you been divorced or are you still in a happy marriage with happy children

Msg 24, Of course there will be kids who make it through despite the handicaps their parent/s imposed on them. But the vast majority of children who self-harm or kill themselves, commit anti-social behaviour, drink, take drugs and end up in care or court are from broken homes. Particularly homes where they saw excessive drinking, violence or chaotic behaviour. Parents who choose to have children when they clearly should not bear a heavy responsibility for the misery they will impose on the youngsters. Tragically, those children are likely to go an and form the next generation of inadequacy, and so on. Yes thanks, happily married for many years with young children and consider myself lucky. But I do believe you have to work hard to make things good, and too many people put their own selfish needs before the children, hence the break-ups.

http://parenting247.org/article.cfm?ContentID=646 "Another way to say this is that MOST children in divorced families do not need help, but MORE children in this group than in intact families are likely to need help. This is a complicated message and the media often errs on the side of one or the other of these two types of findings. Both findings are important."

Oh Riddles try reading the link I gave and the section I quote from it. Zoots is correct but as ever his 'truth' is only a partial one. It is equally a fact that children from homes where parents have divorced are more likey to NOT suffer from serious problems requiring professional help than they are. As the eminintley more qualifed Robert Hughes, Jr., Ph.D. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign points out "This is a complicated message and the media often errs on the side of one or the other of these two types of findings.", which is exactly what Zoots has done in this thread.

Message 18 Quite right, and I must say it was a VERY English wedding but did enjoy it and we in Scotland have our own version of Jerusalem! Why talk of divorces? Everyone must think on their wedding day = it's forever! (isn't it?)

Zoots - my first marriage ended in divorce after 3 children. Those same three all married, as far as I can see happily, no divorces so far, and the first one has had her silver wedding - so I think they are doing fine - thank you! They never blamed me (though they were very small at the time) and have been stable and lovely children turning into adults to be proud of. Give the royals the same chance everyone else has - we cant choose our parents, or necessarily make the same mistakes they did.
