Having found a leaflet under the windscreen wiper of our hire car we apprehensively decided to try the Silk Way Asian Restaurant and Bar Alsancak. We had a very good Thai meal at a price we considered to be reasonable. To find the place if you are interested take the main road between Girne in the direction of Lapta branch left towards Alsancak and then take the first turning left where the restaurant can be found on the right hand side. The young waiter Atuk was very pleasant with relatively good spoken English. If you go I hope you enjoy your evening as much as we did.

We tried the silk way last week, whilst the staff were friendly, i am afraid the food was not very good at all and definitely not Thai...

We did inform the waiter of the shortcomings and hopefully the food will improve...

The Chef is not Thai, but Russian, and unfortunately it is evident from the food served...

We're still looking for authentic thai food....maybe Ting and Tong,Negative Nicks pals could help...

What is it with a lot of people on this forum?

Is your life so miserable you always feel the urge spread your misery by running things down and complaining in public.

Message #2: I don't know what Thailand you've been to; the one I've visited about five times now has food very similar to what I was served. Using your logic means people from a country can only qualify or get expertise of their own countries cuisine? Yeah right, ....I'll avoid whatever it is you're on.

Message #3: Get a life.

Good luck to the new management. It's nice to be able to have a free choice; unless of course there are others who feel it should be mandatory to eat the food of the country you live in.

The waiter's name is Atif.

The chef there apparently lived in Thailand for six years and was employed as such at a restaurant.

I can't comment on Silk Way just yet but the only authentic Thai restaurant is in Nicosia (other side) where I had a "real" Thai meal. I'll look forward to sampling Silk Way soon....

Msg 3- I never knew Cyprus was a Turkish country, thanks for the info ;)

Only been using this forum a couple of weeks, and it really narks when after someone takes the time to write something positive for the benefit of others, some people feel it's right to knock them.

My 11 year old grandaughter was reading this thread with me and she said how stupid it was to write;

"If you want Thai food,Why are you in a Turkish country??? "

I explained that if you look at the profile of the person posting, you can also read some of their other posts, while I went to make a cuppa, she did just that, when back, she said

" maybe he's just sad and angry, grandad"

What a strange person you must be- so people who live in England can only eat Pie & Mash every day or whatever other dishes are 'English'..

I assume you eat a full meze every evening then?

I'm sure everyone who lives here enjoys the Cypriot cuisine, but most people enjoy trying other cuisines hence the popularity of the Chinese and India restaurants here! I'm sure most Cypriots are included in this too- so I take it they should move to China or India??

The thread is about Silk Way and I for one would like to find a good Thai restaurant here without having to go and live in Thailand so as the reviews are mixed I will try it myself!

Perhaps you shouldn't open threads about food in future unless they say 'Cypriot Cuisine'

sid447 message 4...my opinion of the food is purely that...an opinion based on my own travels to Thailand ( every year for the last 15 years). I was of the opinion that this forum was the place to share experiences good and bad alike without the needless, unnecessary childish comments you portray. Your tastes may not be the same as others, does that make others wrong?

In your own words "get a life" and allow others to enjoy theirs...and their opinions!

andypow.. your grand daughter is correct..quite a few of the posters on here dont allow you to air your opinions.. speak out and your condemned..spelling mistakes are mocked, people trying to sell something are threatened to be grassed up and deported for not paying tax, people with financial or marital problems are abused for trying to rehome thier pets, we are called baked bean brits by a certain dutchman, and accused of being racist by a certain bearded tc.. threatened with violence by email. i could go on forever.. we went to this place yesterday as thai is our favourite food . we have been to thailand and have tried thai food in different countries around the world. my opinion was the starters tasted authentic , the main course was close but missed some of the ingredients needed to finish it off . the waiter was very nice and we will give it a second chance after asking him to pass our comments on to the chef..i hope he listens as it blows bo thai clean out of the water..

Mr Daveboy,

"......making needless, unnecessary childish comments you portray."

........You are so funny!

Clearly fully in command of a well-balanced attitude and a healthy outlook on life with NOT the slightest hint of a supercilious mentality.

God bless you and may you live the rest of your days in peace and quiet.

Regardless of what the "T" stands for in trnc I consider myself to live in Cyprus and please don't forget this is CYPRUS! Even the EU consider this to be one Cyprus (look it up on the EU website if you like).

Ok that clears that up (I hope) and sorry for diversing from the original thread.

We will try Silk Road this week and keep you posted!

Unrecognised is not the same as non-existent...... If you live in Bellapais you live in a Turkish Republican Enclave on Cyprus, recognised only by Turkey hence the "T"

Tried this place too,

Thought it was really nice and the prices for what you get are surprisingly good.

Being as even two top chefs can't agree on what constitutes an authentic meal, we found the food was refreshingly different and the restaurant comfortable and clean.

Not everything on the easy-to-read menu (with a presentation picture of the order) was available; but that's understandable when working with fresh foreign produce and just starting out on a business venture: though there was more than enough to choose from that was available.

Good luck and best wishes to someone who's trying. God knows it's difficult enough to start out on something like this here.
