The Dutch queen Beatrix celebrates her birthday in Holland (she travels the province of Limburg, where all idiots dressed in orange and wave silly little flags) and Dutch radio is reporting all day long (the same as last year and the same as etc).

The radio reporters are now discussing her hat (probably bought in the same Albanian shop where HM Queen Elisabeth seems to be a customer). It's too much. Two royal families in one week. I give up. I switch off my Internet connection to Radio 1 (Holland). It's going to be Johnny Cash again today. The Man in Black on this sombre Saturday.

P.S. It seems that 'they' bombed Libya again last night. And in Syria the tyrant Assad had his army shoot again at unarmed civilians. Hundreds dead this week. But I can't get it confirmed on the radio, because (see the start of this thread).

Re Msg 1,

DC, at least you should be grateful that your monarchy doesn't cost you as much as the British Royal family - Europe’s most expensive - to the British tax payers.

The President of France costs their taxpayers much more & the Crown estates generate far more income for the British taxpayers than is paid out to the Queen for the Civil List.

The Romans called it 'Bread and Circuses' ....keep the underclasses happy with food and glamorous events and they'll never ask for justice ...it's still working!

Well said DC.

The day before the royal wedding a bomb exploded in a cafe that I frequently use in Marrakech. I flicked from BBC to SKY news channels and got nothing but interviews with people outside Buck House etc etc. On the BBC 6pm news the first 15 minutes were about the wedding, followed by 30 seconds about the American tornadoes, 30 seconds about the Marrakech bomb then another 14 minutes about the bloody wedding!

News providers need to revisit their definitions iof what 'news' actually is.

Msg 4. I live in Windsor, surrounded by Crown Estates - all fenced off - acres and acres and acres of land - inaccessible to the public yet we pay for their upkeep - just so the Queen or family members can have a jog around on their horses now and then........Cornwall of course provides some income, but only to Charles.....the never ending upkeep of the royal houses is HUGE, yet when we stood outside the house years ago, and watched Windsor Castle burning down - the Royal family had the nerve to ask us all to contribute to the repairs because it wasn't insured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You couldn't make it up.....(which I believe is when they started the tours of Buck House to raise some revenue........)
