Elko My neighbour has been informed that his builder is ready to transfer the kojan. His advocate is charging £1200 to facilitate this. Am I right in thinking that by TRNC standards this final step is relatively simple to do yourself? Pay over to the builder the 5%VAT and then go with builder to land registry and hand over the 3%, or is this too simplistic? Thoughts please. Newscoop

Quite simple. The owner goes and pays his taxes and you pay him the 5% VAT or you go together and you pay on his behalf. Then the Land registry office will give you a piece of paper and you go and pay the 3% transfer fee to a bank. You can find a chap around the Tapu Office tohelp you for about 50 quid and let him fill in all the forms or let the owner do it. Let us knowwho the gready lawyer is. ismet

Thanks for that Ismet. As for the advocate I think she works out of a third floor office just up from Girne fire station on the right.

Me again! My neighbour was told that the district valuers no longer bother to pay a visit to the property re assessing the 3%. Apparently they now go strictly on the purchase price, sounds fair to me. Any thoughts? Newscoop.
