Just to let anyone know that is interested I went to immigration this morning for my first residency. The cost was 193TL plus 7.25TL in stamps. Having looked at previous posts on this forum beforehand I thought the cost was going to be 185TL but they have obviously put up the price !

Post 2. We were happily doing that when we were stopped and told to apply for residency. We had been here 5 months at that time.

MSG 2 - why not just stick to the rules of the country you live in and get your residency if you want to stay longer than 90 days?

Also, they have cottoned on to this and don't give 90 day stamps at the border anymore.

msg 4 where did that info come from re 65 yrs of age. As usual theres so much said about what they do and say at the border it all depends on the day what they will give

msg5 where did you get that info from too

Younger people have more of a problem if they have being going over to the south in order to get another 90 days I genuinely go out of the country either travelling from the south or if I can from ercan and dont have residency as why when I am away so often. I have never had a problem and didnt this time getting 90 days.

The price of residency was 185TL last year but it increases every January.

Trouble with that Msg.10 is that a great many other items up here will go up in price in leaps and bounds and will probably negate not having to pay for residencies. In the mean time it is better to just obey the rules and pay up. With regard to the 90 day business, it seems to vary from day to day depending on who is on duty that particular day and the way he/she is interpreting that particular rule. Best not to rely on the "going over the border" though.

Last year I was with a friend when she was refused any extension at the border which was a nuisance as she was going to Belgium the day after her residency expired and the fine is over 60YTL per day.

We finally met with the head of the immigration dept. in Lefkoşa police station who told us that no extension should be given unless you return on a later day. However you can cross at 23.59 and return at 00.01.

The 30/90 day question did not come up as he reluctantly gave her 15 days to get back and renew her residency.

As previously said the cross border trip is a negative.

My 6th Temporary Residency application was accepted yesterday,( having been denied/refused the previous week as "You do not have a tax stamp on your Kocan !")

The same papers have been used for the last 5 applications and have been accepted after annual updates !!!.

The amazing thing is that I still do not have a tax stamp on my Kocan,-I just re-presented it again yesterday with all the other documents, (having the kocan in your grubby little mitt is proof that the tax has been paid anyway, otherwise they wouldn't have issued the Kocan !) I believe the rules changed from last week to this week as they had changed last week from the week before, but then again they may be the same as they were the week before that ............. whatever! LMAO Life in the TRNC is nothing but laughable at times. Bless them all.

Hi all, I have a question on TRNC Residency.

I am Australian, my wife Russian, and my kid Russian Australian (both passports) we currently live in Moscow, Russia. I am mid 40s, my wife late 30s and kid 4 and a half.

We have bought a place at Caesar Resort - all looks fine. I have suggested that my wife ditch her job and take her and our kid and live in Cyprus with me flying in and out of Cyprus. I need to be in Moscow for work/business the second half of each month, and can work remotely the first half.

I assume that I wont need to get residency because I will be flying in and out regularly. But what I would like any thoughts on is if it is worthwhile my wife getting a TRNC residence, and my son - they presumably will fly in and out of Cyprus every couple of months or so. But I am also interested in sending my child to an English language school somewhere in TRNC - so would I need him to be a resident to go to school there?

any thoughts most welcome......

Gunnamatta,

I am pretty sure someone will try to point out errors in what I am writing even though they don't have the same lifestyle as you or I do, mainly because they heard something from somewhere so they must write it down just to feel justified.

Anyway to answer your question, I also have a Russian wife and as I work all over the world I do not require residency, in fact as per the law in North Cyprus, you can't get residency if you are out of the country more than 163 days per year (They do still make some men get it before they will issue to the wife though). My wife does have residency and for all the hassle and cost involved (very little in truth, you only hear about the bad stories on here, never the 95% that went perfectly well), in my honest opinion it is woirth getting, chidren don't need residency if under 18, they are considered part of the parents so there is no residence requirement for schools as far as I am aware. cont.

continuation. The only int I would make is that on the 1 or 2 occasions that my wife travelled without me she was only given 30 days as her visa instead of the 90 days when I travelled with her because of her passport, We have different surnames so even when I am with her they wouldn't know we are married so it is strange but it is the way it happened, with residency that would obviously never be an issue.

If you would like to ask anything else I would be happy to reply but please do it by my mail because I get really frustrated when trying to help on here and then get abused by members who just like to express a different opinion regardless of its validity.

There are quite a lot of us with FSU partners and we all manage so I wouldn't worry too much, it seems to be the Brits who have most oif the problems
