Paul,

There's no balance to be struck. The destruction of habitat and wildlife in an area of outstanding natural beauty cannot be justified by the greed-driven developments that have ruined north Cyprus. But the place is corrupt and an army state so anything goes when money talks. This journalist is a Turkish Cypriot, so note his words:

"I often travel this road, and over the years have witnessed the wanton destruction of breathtaking landscapes by property developers out for a fast buck from foreign tourists too stupid to know better. Ugly villas, many of them half-built and abandoned, line the coast road all the way from Kyrenia to Yialousa and beyond."

and:

"Several years ago the Turkish Cypriot authorities erected a fence and a sign declaring the area “protected”. In reality, nothing is protected."

Correct. That was where the Turkish army destroyed a prehistoric site with a digger - to plant giant Turkish flags. Tells you all you need to know about the TRNC regime.

Because of course destruction of habitat and wildlife in area of outstanding natural beauty only happens in the TRNC.

Msg 3,

Let's hear you condemn the environmental destruction in the TRNC instead of making the pathetic excuse that it happens elsewhere. We know that. We're talking about the Karpas peninsula which is one of the most precious areas in the world. The Turkish authorities are not protecting it but are allowing its destruction.

Good to see you/Gina have stopped the trolling though.

Look zoots making pious holier than thou claims on a forum like this does nothing for the enovironment at all. As ever you care nothing for the 'issue' here only in how it can be used to attack the TRNC / TC.

Unlike you I have actualy done much in real world terms to promote environmental issues in North Cyprus. I just don't go around bragging about it. I can easily list the number of pro envirmonmental orgnisations I have supported in person and do support in the North and South and that I have done unpaid work for but why should I ? We both know what your objective is with this post and its nothing to do with the environment in the TRNC.

Here we go again with zoots & erolz !

It's become a comedy act.

Can the moderators only allow one of them to post on any particular topic, unless you wish the banter to continue with no input to the topic in question !!! LOL

birdman,

You're about a day late and the comedy is in your own mind. If you fancy yourself as a moderator put yourself forward. Otherwise try taking important subjects seriously if you value Cyprus and its environment.

Paul

One of the after post comments from the link was, 'I don't mind a marina being built so long as it's not on Greek land'. When was a marina ever built on land?!

Funny buggers those Greeks and their brainwashed sympathisers!

Birdman you may not care about someone persuing a long term covert campaign against TC and the TRNC on forums like this one but I do I am afraid.

Zoots post no2 tries to attibute an effect, destruction of the environment, to a single cause, alledged corruption in the TRNC. I have every right to point out the sheer nonsense of this assertion and point out that it was clearly made, as far as I am concerned, not from any concern for the environment but from a desire to create as negative an impression of the TRNC as he can. Environmental destruction is a complex subject and a result of many pressures and many divers causes, none of which are unique to the TRNC. To try and blame it then on a single cause as zoots does here is the work of a propagandist as far as I am concerned and I do not see why I should not say such if I believe it to be the case. I am sorry that this upsets you but not enough to let such blatant attempts pass without comment.

Of course the corruption on this SPECIFIC project is alledged. No one is saying there is no corruption in the TRNC, but unless you want to provide some actual evidence then the claim that this specific harbour project is the result of corruption, then of course it is alledged, matey.
