Syria and Lebanon formely established diplomatc ties on Wednesday for the first time since independence 60 years ago.Turning a new page in relations between Beruit and its powerful neighbour.Does Turkey really need the eu or is it the other way around.

Obama has made a speech today stresssing how he has been a true friend of the greek American community over the years.And also today in his speech became the first major presidential candidate to refer to the Cyprus problem as "turkish occupation".

That's good news Syria and Lebanon. Last I heard was that the Syrians were massing troops at the Lebanese border. Not sure waht the Americans will make of this, especially as Syria is once again chummy with Russia.



How do you see this impacting Turkey and the EU Paul? Your comments suggest a link.

Mark,

They both will offer more stability friendship well being, and possibly more bargaining power in the whole area.It may be a fragile peace in the area and eggshells will still have to be walked on but at least they will be trading,
