We are thinking of putting a 4 metre dish in and have been told that you can run it without sky but need a freeview box to run it for main Uk channels. Can anyone tell us which one we need and where you can get??? Thanks

I can't think why you would need a dish that size if you're not going to have SKY or am I missing something here?

You WILL be getting Sky, the dish will be for the astra satellite, but think you're on about using it for freesat instead of a subscription, which of course is an option.

Ive got a OSN package with a small 90cm dish and a box that records 2 diffrent channels if i wish and has full HD on some channels, the picture is beautiful,if you like english soaps, you can watch them,i can watch all the UFC i wish, wonderful if you want american idol, its there,to much good TV to mention,if TV is part of your entertainment, then id say this is the package to buy for quality and price.

No freezing,no huge sky subscriptions, AND NO HUGE NASTY LOOKING DISH IN THE GARDEN.

I think you mean a FREESAT box - not a freeview box.

With a Freesat box, which is just a Sky Digibox, you use a FREESAT CARD, which is a one-off payment of about 20 quid and gets the main UK channels. SKY sell them. The Freesat card must be matched to the box by SKY.

A Freesat box does not have to be a Sky box with a Freesat card. I use a Humax Freesat box does not need a freesat card.

Hi, I had to get a 4.2 metre dish purely because I wanted the BBC channels. I also needed a Sky box for this but was fortunate to have the extra box from my sister in the UK who upgraded to SkyHD+ with an additional room added on. I had the HD Box and for this I pay her £10 for the additional box and £10 HD (£20 per month). If you need any advice or help setting it up or even to buy the dish itself then I recommend you contact Acip. He is excellent.

You can't get all the BBC, ITV, Ch4, Ch5, channels unless you use a freesat card, Sky Box or other box.

We have an ordinary sky box which we bought from someone in Cyprus that was upgrading, and it already had a card in the slot, we get all the main channels from the Uk, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, E4 + lots of others, never had to upgrade the card it still works 2 years on.

The other option is a FREESAT box which are available and you will get all of the above, once you have purchased the box there are no other expences. So look in the for sale ads and see if someone wants to get rid of an old box.

OR

If you have a box in the UK just buy a one off payment card which is about £60.00 and bring it with you.

I've been running the main 4 UK channels for 5 years (i.e. before Freeview) off a 4 metre dish with limited problems at no subscription to 3 houses.

Any digibox will do as far as I know.

So Gooligan I go on the sky web and order a card and then get a sky box off the internet? Is this right?

Re Msg 16: I think you mean Freesat, not freeview. Freeview is the UK terrestrial service.

Freesat is on satellite, and you buy a once-off card to get all the Freesat channels.
