In spite of never ever running foul of a UK camera, in 2009 in TRNC I clocked 4 speeding tickets in TRNC, all at the same camera near Ercan, all before 6 am and always with my family shouting "Camera" every few hundred yards and shouting back "I am not speeding". One was when driving my brother's car and I always allow an extra hour for the journey in case of a puncture or the like. Now I am fined for driving at 77 kph at the Golden Lady Camera, before 6 am en route to Ercan ! I can only join the coastal road at the Golden Lady from where we live, the camera is approx 100 yards from the junction and I drive an old, lump vehicle. I have since tried to reach 77 kph within the scope of that camera, by thrashing the engine from a rolling start at the junction and cannot get anywhere near to 77 kph. I now intend to buy a 20 year old, unroadworthy Renault, cloth cap, hearing aid, and p...s off every motorist by never exceeding 40 kph, as many of the locals in the know do. Revenge !

My husband got two tickets on the same day, at the same camera, one on his way to work and one on his way home.....in a mile stretch the limit changes four times, 30 to 40 then 40 to 30..then 30 to 40 etc again...this is done for pure greed as it is a wide unbuilt up area.......so he got 60 points plus a considerable fine..............excellent, this is not about safe driving at all it is all about getting more cash......

You should obey the law and stop putting lives at risk. Signs and cameras are installed in places where fatalities have been worst or local people are most at risk. How many people whinge about the Third World level of driving here then moan about getting done for speeding?

Breathtaking hypocrisy, but nothing new there...

Zoots - you have totally missed the point of message 1. The guy was obeying the law and still got prosecuted.

The best way to improve road saftey, anywhere in the world, would be to stop making cars with airbags and crumple zones and roll cages. Instead have a 6 inch spike on every steering wheel pointing towards the drivers chest.

It sounds ludicrous I know, but actualy I really believe this would lead to less fatalites on the roads and not more, especially fatalites of 'third parties'. Sometime you have to think outside the box and then put a great big spike on it.

breezy,

I wasn't criticising him personally. If he was innocent I hope he challenged it. It's the board hypocrites I was aiming at.

Ismet. I was hardly likely to deliberately give them another donation. My test, though not scientific, proved to me all I needed to know before I reached 65 kph. I retired to Cyprus because I used to love the Country and it's people both North and South and I was sick and tired from half a lifetime making a living from litigation when everything was of course contentious. Therefore I have no motivation whatsoever to legally try for redress of the the unfairness. I made the post, trying to keep a smile, because many others have stated their suspicions regarding the calibration of speed cameras and I simply now make the point that in my humble view they have every reason to remain suspicious. Stay safe all !

Perhaps he is having a drag parachute fitted to improve his braking performance immediately before speed cameras ?
