He should go to the UK. Then he won't have to work and he'll get paid for not working!

No 1 Doyen/Coachie. Something like this illustrates the huge difference in country's cultures, I guess. I wonder what sentence a Nigerian gets for Internet fraud? Purely for comparitive purposes!

chessman... they sometimes refer to these arabic and african countries as being "barbaric" because of the punishments they dish out.One thing is for sure if you know that you are going to loose your hand if you steal something then you have to be amoron to do it. Same as the nigerian bloke,I bet all his mates who were sitting around with him are frantically looking for ajob...Something to said for being a bit barbaric.Wish we had some of it in our legal system. Our problem is we have too many do gooders in our society!!!!!

I've only just seen this thread, so I am a little late in commenting... I agree with you guys, a decent deterrent is the only way of preventing most people committing crimes, shirking work, fiddling the system etc. The softly-softly-let's-hug-the-hoodie approach will only really help a very small minority, and I am a firm believer that often you have to be cruel to be kind.

Having spent some time in Nigeria, I'd say if idleness is now a jailable offence, they need to start building LOTS of new prisons.
