A small white mongrel has turned up on our patio within the past half hour. It is very distressed, paws caked in dried mud. We have offered water, but it seems too poorly to care. It is wearing a silver chain link collar, butcan't see any identifying tags. Does anyone know who might own it? We are in Karsiyaka, sea side. Many thanks, Jan

Please try to continue with the water. In this heat it is essential that it keeps hydrated. Don't try to be too pushy and it will probably take water of its own accord. If it really is very distressed then it needs to be quietly reassured and then left in peace for a while. Tango1

Thanks for the advice - that's what we have done. We are not very "doggy" people, but it is very upsetting to see an animal in such a state...

Lilli, I think it may have had a little drink, but it is shaking all over - is that a symptom of parvo virus?

The little dog has perked up a bit, it is a sweet looking litle thing, and doesn't look like your average "bondu" stray, but if it has been lost/abandoned it may have been some time ago. Please everybody get a message out to as many contacts as you can, to try to find its owners. Thank you.

jan, if you can manage it, it may be worth putting a photo of the dog on here, you never know someone might recognise it as a neighbours or friends dog. good luck and i hope it makes a full recovery.

Thanks Chris, have sent photo. Sadly, the little dog has disappeared overnight - wish we had been able to get its poor little paws cleaned up, it must be very difficult for it to walk. I think it had been chased by the local strays and that's why it was so distressed. Hope it has recovered enough to get by. Will keep our eyes open forit in the area. Thanks everyone. Jan

Yes devo been owned as you say, someone has gone to the trouble of having him clipped. Its upsetting isn't it when you have done what you've done and then they do a runner. However, they are very, very independant little critters, they're not called "Cyprus Terrorists" for nothing!! Tango1

I saw this poor little dog at about 6pm this evening. I wound my car window down to attempt to talk to it and have to say I had a lump in my throat when I actually saw the state of the poor little thing. It had crossed the road from Karsiyaka Square and was making it's way along the road towards the village. I recognised it from the picture attached to mgs 11 and know I have seen it on several occasions before this evening. It is normally with several other dogs running in the road oustside the second house on the left just before the junction that leads to the village. I believe that the owners are locals. Will try and find out if they do actually own it and report back so that it puts member's minds at ease that is has not actually been dumped.
