Don't agree with above. Had eye test in UK and went to Canada Optik opposite Karakum Lemar. Varifocals with sun reactive lenses, lenses were 180tl frames 200tl (they did have frames for 100tl) so cost approx 200 pound. Last time I bought varifocals in UK paid 320 pounds.

Agree with spud. Friend just had vari-focals over here and reckoned she had saved 50%.

There's a good dispensing optician next door to DenizPlaza about 300 yards west of the fountain roundabout.

Eye testing though is a different matter. My test was done at the hospital (I think that's the only place you can get it done) and it seemed pretty perfunctory to me.

I received apalling quality glasses at Canada Optic and gave up after they broke them twice in the shop after doing adjustments

they were cheaper but never quite right!! Perhaps they have better staff now.

I did try to get them mended elsewhere but was informed they were no good - I should have gone to Specsave

My glasses broke here and I went to a glaases shop with my prescription. They insisted that I had to have another eye test . The choice of frames was not great. They had a lot but all so similar. Had very few that had springs in the arms, I had to have glass , they could not make the lenses thinner and anti glare was really expensive. and in the end they gave me a headache.

I went to Vision Express, once I got back to Salisbury and paid £50 more but had very nice D & G frames, thinned plastic, antiglare and snap shut arms on them, Never again.

Always go to AA Optical in South Nicosia. Just got new varifocals with reactolites 212 euro. Optician is very fussy about measuring and fit. The most comfy glasses I have had have come from them

I broke the arm off my glasses and the optician here said he could put the lenses into new frames. He said they were not varyfocals, when they were and when he did put them into new frames, the lenses cracked after two days, obviously too much tension. all this was in Famagusta

We usually go to Akay Optik, they have branches in Girne & Lefkosa. I got Versace frames and variofocal lenses plus reactolite for 900TL, so less than £400, my sister paid nearly £500 for similar ones at Boots.

Both me and the missus have used Akay Optik in Girne many times, and found the service to be superb, and much cheaper than the UK.

We have even sent back broken specs for repair - and once agian the service was excellent, highly recommended....

I think it you would be better off getting your lenses from somewhere like Postoptics in the UK, much cheaper than buying them here.
