Know what you mean Jock....

He's probably had one good idea in his musical career and then belaboured it ever since... like painting the same picture over and over again.... OK the first time but come on....

I could cut my throat just thinking about him never mind listening to the "music" and who would pay good money to see him? My cousin is an undertaker and one of his clients requested Leonard |Cohen at his funeral (forward planning or what) and my cousin refused saying it was far too morbid.

My idea of a fun night? A combined Smiths and Leonard Cohen concert. I'd be hacking at my wrists!

Check this:

Suicidal Syd is an extreme manic depressive, who becomes suicidal over minor occurrences and then attempts to commit suicide in various different ways that are often surreal, topical and farcical; eg. in one strip he draws what he thinks is a cartoon of Muhammad and shows it to a group of fanatical Islamists, hoping they will murder him, but he then realizes he has actually drawn a picture of Muhammad Ali. All of his attempts fail. He then recovers from his depression, only to be killed in some other way afterwards, which is often related to the reason why he became depressed in the first place.

For example, in one story he becomes depressed at the lack of moral standards in the world after being invited to take part in a threesome with a man and his girlfriend. Eventually he gets a toy car lodged in his throat, and a passer-by performs the Heimlich manoeuvre to dislodge the car. Syd then regains his faith in humanity.

His payment for appearing in the Isle of White (?) pop festival (circa 1968)

Was 6 x Triumph Bonnevilles motorbikes - at least he outlived them.

I first heard L Cohen on the Jools Holland show on T V many years ago, I went straight out the next day and bought the tape, it was first class. I still play it now and have made plenty of copies for friends who also enjoyed the tape.

Well, for all the comments on here, we watched him live at the O2.

Brilliant mesmerising performance! The sell out audience loved him! Reaction was better than we saw for the 'Stones'!

My first post but had to join in as I saw Leonard Cohen at the Isle of Wight (yes I am that old) Absolutely Brilliant. Yes I did stay awake through his act although I fell asleep during Jimmy Hendrix.

Mitsi, it's all a matter of personal taste and I happen to like all 3 even though Leonard Cohen is the only one I haven't seen 'live'.....so nothing shameful about it.

Groucho - no just three very long days and short nights. Does anyone remember Tiny Tim also on the same billing. Hilarious to see the Hells Angels Dancing around and singing Tiptoe Thru The Tulips.

One of my pet hates is pretentiously deep music lyrics...

No words this time?

No words.

No, there are times when nothing can be done.

Not this time.

Is it censorship?

Is it censorship?

No, it's evaporation.

No, it's evaporation.

Is this leading somewhere?

Yes.

We're going down the lane.

Is this going somewhere?

Into the garden.

Into the backyard.

We're walking down the driveway.

Are we moving towards....

We're in the backyard.

...some transcendental moment?

It's almost light.

That's right.

That's it.

Are we moving towards some transcendental moment?

That's right.

That's it.

Do you think you'll be able to pull it off?

Yes. Do you think you can pull it off?

Yes, it might happen.

I'm all ears.

I'm all ears.

Oh the morning glory!

Bet you never realised this was about Prince Charles..... ha ha
