Butterfly nice posting. May I ask your reasons for selling up to go back to the UK? If its personal reasons obviously you dont have to answer the question. I cannot stress how much the UK has down down the toilet and is a grim place to live in every aspect. nunu

Nunu..If its that bad why are all these immigrants waiting to come and loads ofEuropean workers.Grant you it is abit grim at the moment but it can only get better. You may have better weather there than we do but thats it.from what I have read on this forum some people dont know whether they own there property or not.Wouldnt like that hanging over my head.Cost or living dosent seem to be any cheaper over there than here,so therefore must have decided she/he/they it was not worth the hassle...

Loving cyprus...Of course it is.Obviously it cant beasbad as nunu says otherwise they wouldnt come they would go elsewhere.likewise if you had to come back and were in dire needs it would apply to you as well. Now if she lived inZimbabwe I would agree wih his statement,I know what you are thinking, but we are not that bad yet...Let me ask you a question . If you decided to leaveTRNC Where would you go to???

Fire starter.. but do you get the other things as welli.e free health care ,free transport, winter fuel allowance, to name a few .When I was in Crete in June of this year I had need tosee adoctor 60 euros and 30 euros for the prescrition medicines. With the medication I have to take being a heart bypass patient it would cost me a fortune out there whereas doesnt cost me apenny back here.... so if you were unfortunate enough to have to move for whatever reason taxation is not always the best reason ...

Whilst the NHS was always meant to be free at the point of need, you do still pay for it... that's what your National Insurance payments are for... and lets face it presciptions at £7.10p. are not cheap in the UK... OK we have to pay for medication here, however it's very often cheaper than a NHS prescription... e.g. Atenolol (blood pressure tablets) are 1.58 YTL (41p) for a one month supply here... that's very cheap.

Turtle ... I would still prefer to be here than over there on a permanent basis .It would suit me to have aplace there to gon holiday to acouple of times ayear as for living there I would have to some serious research first. I think the red wine I had with dinner is getting to me.my spelling etc is diabolical. I have always worked on the basis that if you want something that is good you have to the price, and I have no qualms about paying my NI contributions, cos when I had need of the NHS in abig way they came up trumps inside o f two weeks.Had I not been paying NHS contributions that operation I had would have cost in the region of £40000 without the cost of the aftercare medication, and I want that system to be available for everyone as was intended to be in the beginning, and not as MRS THATCHER wanted,to privatise it and everybody have private health insurance if you could afford it. I am quite happy paying my wack Turtle.Us old Socialsts will not go away doesnt matter what you say

hi, reasons were two fold. six and a half years in the TRNC 2 businesses, felt that the difficulties in ex-pats trying to run a business outweighed the enjoyment of the experience of living abroad. second reason my daughter gave birth to my darling grand-daughter in 2007 and found it really hard being apart from them. Came back, good job with accomodation provided. The TRNC will always hold a special place in my heart and i feel that the love of the country will remain stronger from a distance and visiting!!!

Coachie its horses for courses! What is good for one person may not be so good for another! As far as the UK is concerned...its the only place in the world where if you are an immigrant you get all the help and freebies you like! Im fed up with being the cash cow to pay for the poxy system in the UK which is one way only. I fell on heard times several times over the past 7 years and little a little assistance ie some Dole money until I could get myself back on my feet.....Having paid in to the system all my life! I virtually got nothing from them....they were happy to take thousands of pounds tax off me over the years though! They may as well spat in my face and kicked me in the family allowance region......Thats how I was treated I got NOTHING! Hence yes Im bitter about our Government and the corrupt unfair system. Im taking my skills out of UK as they do not Bloody deserve my input! Here endeth my soap box! nunu

Six of one half dozen of the other, the only difference I can see is that you will be in the Euro if spain wins. What will happen in Cyprus?...... |

Just back from Gibraltar last night after a few days there. You need a serious amount of money to buy a pad there - nothing much reasonable for less than £500,000 - but you could always get a place in Spain nearby and cross over as many locals do. It's our fourth visit and with good career opportunities and tax breaks, excellent schools, free university education, fab weather and 2.5 hour flights to Blighty we have even discussed moving there. Stay in the TRNC you lot!

Coachie, The Spanish claims are pretty much history and the joint sovereignty proposals were rejected overwhelmingly by the Gibraltarians in 2002. Since nothing will be done without the agreement of the locals - who are fiercely Brit - the Union flag will be flying over the Rock for a long, long time to come.
