Have a look at this:

http://www.38degrees.org.uk/NHS-petition

I’ve just signed a petition to Save the NHS. Right now the government is rushing through plans which experts, and groups representing doctors and nurses, warn could break the NHS up and hand control to private health companies. It's also a huge waste of money at a time when funding is already squeezed with beds and wards being cut.

If you care please sign the petition

Well done Liz a very worthy cause, if this goes through it will be the end of the NHS as we know it and US medical service suppliers are going to get even richer paid by our taxes.

Go on line and sign the petition, you know it makes sense.

The nhs neds reform in lots of areas .

its a great idea ,thats become a massive drain and expense to the tax payer.

now before you shoot me think about the mass money thats been wasted ,and the management thts top heavy.

i pay bupa in addition to taxes and NI ,just to get some level of service.

so paying twice isnt good either,

if governemnt wants to invest in nhs ,which it should ...it has to tackle immigration and benefit fiddlers first ..then nhs will get funding

That's the one newscoop, the one that you can contribute to for decades, and then not be allowed to use, whilst illegal immigrants can arrive with no visa etc, and get immediate access too.

They should start by denying any access to anyone who shouldn't be using it, irrespective of the consequences, or give them to option to pay, full cost up front.

Access the hundreds of thousands of pen pushers to see if they actually still have a heart beat, and sack most of them to free up millions of pounds for those that actually achieve something and provide a first class service.

Set targets for 'head in the cloud' consultants who cancel clinics on a whim, and deduct full costs (hospitals and patients) from them when they do.

To be honest, the system, like all Gov run fiasco's is pilfered by so many that it probably needs to be closed and started again.

Look to the BT model, lost millions as a Gov run operation, then privatised and made £60 a second in it's hey-day.

The N.H.S.is out of control. It is akin to a large company i worked for before retirement .Before we embraced new technology and computerisation,we had a machineroom overseer an 3 deputies to run the job. Comes new tech.we had a manager of some title or another to every 3 workers, making the place top heavy managementwise. This is exactly the same with the N.H.S.

Msg 10, out of 5000 plus posts, probably the first sensible coherent one you have made.

The NHS is overstaffed at the Management Level ,as all that counts are Stat's ....I know someone who waited two years for an Operation, which if he had been in BUPA for example would have taken 2 weeks.....The ageing population has outgrown the NHS's capabilities...........And is "Abused" by many ....I really think it was a "Great" Post War idea that has run it's useful course.. Where I come from you pay to see the Doc,and if you are referred for hospital care that is FREE .......A much better system In my opinion.

The Management are not going to get rid of themselves are they, to get at the Government for suggesting they are over staffed they are closing wards and finishing nurses to make the public believe it is the Governments fault. Same with some local government (mainly Labour run councils)cutting first line services instead of getting rid of Managers who don't have a job.

Sorry hodgeliz, you certainly wont get me signing this petition.

Why do people think that private companies are a threat to the NHS. The NHS already pays billions of pounds to private companies in return for services.

Increasing medical inflation and an elderly population equals unsustainability of the NHS in its present form.

I think Lansleys recommendations seem sound, but it will never work unfortunately, because too many people in the NHS wont support his change. It doesn't help that Nick Clegg has decided that the best way to toughen up is to backtrack on the NHS reforms. Remember he previously said that the NHS reforms were the most exciting thing that was happening within coalition policy.

As the great British system thinker Professor Stafford Beer once pointed out 'The only thing you can do with truly dysfunctional systems is to blow them up and start again'

Robust and embedded systems have only one response which is to push back against change.

Since I am not entitled to access to the NHS, I am struggling to see why I should support the petition.

When I lived in the UK, we had to have private medical cover because the NHS was absolutely diabolical in our area. The whole shambolic enterprise needs a root and branch overhaul which no political party has the will to do apparently. It is treated as some kind of sacred cow which can never be touched and seems to be run for the benefit of the staff not the patients. Medically, the UK has poorer outcomes for many diseases - like cancer - than other northern european countries in spite of the money being thrown at the NHS. I don't know what the current figures are but, a few years ago, the NHS was costing more than forty pounds a week for every person in the UK. For that price you could get full cover medical insurance and use high quality private hospitals - certainly in our area - with on time appointments and treatment to suit the patients and not the staff. Sorry, I wouldn't sign anything that encourages the present system to continue.
