Our neighbours need to make a will in NC.

Problem is, with all the negative feedback on advocates, who would be trustworthy enough to act in the even it it was required, without raping the estate in excessive and unnecessary costs?

Any ideas? - Maybe Ismet (aka Elko) as he is well connected in these circles?

Thanks

Brian

Brian

You asked my oinion and all I can tell you is that my wife has been a practising advocate since 1977 in Famagusta and she is also willing to execute the will when the time comes. Need I say any more?

My wife and I registered our wills yesterday. Downloaded a template from Marion Stokes web site filled it in and took 2 witnesses to court in Girne, and hey presto. Only register wills Mon, Wed and Fri up until 12.00. Took us 20min and no cost. Had to supply 2x 27 lira and 2x 6 lira stamps. Wills now registered and held incourt safe for future use. Quick easy and simple

Mitsi,

As Mr. Vince says it can be done using a template but whether it is done properly or not they will not know until the time comes. Any umbiquity or wittnesses not in accrdance with the regulations will make it invalid. The registrar is not supposed to see the contents and therefore not expected to comment on its validity.

If you wish to employ a lawyer it can vary from one lawyer to another, you will have to ask the person you have in mind.

I would have thought that if there was any discrepancy by using the downloaded template then it would have been picked up by now. I do understand that the template is not for everyone, ours was a simple will leaving remaining estate to each other and then to our surviving children. If you have anything complex or extended family members and ex spouses then this may not be for you, but if you are straight forward then have a look at Marion Stokes' site.

I am not a lawyer - our joint will was simple with a very small twist. I t took over two hours of a couple of good legal minds to be happy that it could be court proof. Ours was a joint will at the lawyers suggestion thus taking over a 1/3rd off the possible costs of two mirror wills.

In North Cyprus I understand there are different legal rulings for different nationalities. So the rules of inheritance could have a different end result to what you intended. If there are problems on your death the costs would be far greater than the price of a good lawyer now.
