Just bought a 6 seater spa/jacuzzi from Gench. They displayed a professionalism which I did not believe existed here in the trnc.

They also knew all about honesty and fairness, we have all become so cynical that we are shocked when confronted with it! They made a mistake over the currency conversion (US dollars to Lire) and told us about this AFTER the financial transaction was done.

Special thanks to Gulyemin who has fitted our showers and screens for the past 8 years and to Murat in the showroom who was so fair and honest with us.

Just for this once it was a pleasure to buy a large, expensive item and feel happy and confident about it.

We are very confident that we will be looked after under the terms of the Guarantee if anything goes wrong in the future.

This is obviously why this company is so successful.

Same treatment at Ronnies Furniture and Ozerden Electric.

They treat you as if you will be back in the future to buy again. As opposed to the "others" who may not be there next week.

Usually, I travel to Nicosia (North) to buy "pricey" items. They do not look at your car/wristwatch/sun-tan before giving you a price. Sometimes they even have their items displayed with a price. It's also in TL! I still can't get over it. A shop with a price sticker!

Last thing, when an appliance goes wrong, it's Nicosia for me every time. No charge for call-out. No charge for collection/delivery, they stick to their day/date/time and they phone before. It's like being in a different country.

Sorry folks, the proper name is Ilkay M Gench and they are the large Yapi Market 50 yards before Lemar on the other side of the road if you are coming from Girne.

Message 6, it is just the same at Gench, they do not look at you to see what they think you can afford, things are properly priced and it is the same price for everyone.

The staff are courteous AND honest. So refreshing.

I agree totally. We've had two bathrooms upgraded from what the builders put in and the service we received from Ilkay Gench (sorry about English spelling) and their workmen was excellent even after I had changed my mind about the fittings.......... twice. They said "as a customer it is your right to change your mind, you must be happy and satisfied" How often do you hear that??

Tango1 I am the world's worst mind changer. Isn't it super not to have someone almost growl at you when you change your mind?

If there was an award for the country's finest retailer, I think they would be certainly in the first 5. In fact, thinking about it, if there was an award system perhaps the others might pick up their acts a bit!

Genç Yapı Market or "İlkay Genç" as originally known have their headquarters in Famagusta but have branches in Girne and Nicosia. I have been dealing with İlkay and later with his sons since 1976. No doubt they give good service otherwise I would not be dealing with them for so long.

Suehowlittle, if there was an award system then its my guess people would "pay" their way on it in any case, so what would be the point. Rather a system that works on word of mouth don't you think?

Aaaah, yes, of course you are right tango1, I never considered that aspect. This is such a small place though and I think it's great that we have just a few 'shining stars'

Says something about us and our experiences here though when we can be so surprised by efficiency and honesty! I have to admit I had become totally cynical in my efforts not to be swizzed.

Unlike some other businesses here I will be able to recommend Genc and know that they will not embarras me by swizzing them!
