Great, at what times will the bazaar be held?

Would you be so kind as to tell us the names of other shops next to the Sinya Restaurant, then maybe I can find the place, I'm terrible at directions !!

I think the sinya is the place with the huge solar panels just next to the Joya bar & bistro on the main coast road

Thank you all for your kind interest,

we are not sure yet about the time but thinking afternoon starting by 15:00, but there will not be any restriction, if someone wants to come early, they can.

I have spoken women club in tatlisu and they will attend with hand made souvenirs. I have also spoken with some housewives in buyukkonuk and mehmetcik villages and they said they will attend. they make local food, kafes, peksemet etc. some of them make hellim cheese from their own sheeps, some makes home made jams etc. I will also speak some other women clubs in other villages.

we want to promote local products in the area and want to give a chance to housewives to make some income for their families. we may also spare a separate section for clothes and other trade products or a second hand bazaar, but want to keep local products as a unique concept.

we'll provide tables or use our picnic tables, may be I can built some stalls. but not promise for umbrellas yet

Şinya is by the main road and you can find us easily in Küçükerenköy village. clairegordon you are right we have solar panels and use green energy.

anyone want to give me advice for starting time pls?

janjin, sure I'll publish time and date when it becomes certain. Let's give me couple of days to speak with some other women clubs.

Is there anyone in this forum who wants to sell something in this bazaar, if yes please inform me asap.

Let's join another event @ the east side

An early start time, allowing stallholders to set up in what little cool there is left in the morning, is far better.

Time it so that you attract AM customers who then stay for lunch and stall holders will hopefully oblige.

If you sell stallholders a coffee and a bacon roll for 8TL they'll appreciate the breakfast too. Getting up and at'em for a ten AM start (9am set-up) means many leave home hungry. A cup of nescafe and a filled roll makes the whole thing a bit more civilised...

PS Will you charge for charity stalls? Most don't.

The way I read this is that Yudu is trying to bring together the village crafts and produce to be sold by villagers and if others want to sell their produce then he will welcome them, in my opinion and it is only my opinion, I dont think I want another Brit type market selling tat car boot style, I await the flak

Yudu. In response to Message 12, I would be very interested in renting a stall at your bazaar to sell my homemade produce. Let me know if I need to give you a ring to book a space. I can provide my own table etc.

I will come and find your restaurant before the first bazaar and introduce myself.

Barbara,

Şinya Restaurant - Küçükerenköy is on the main road.. just keep on going towards Tatlisu and it will come up on your right-hand side. Not far from where Joya and Stevies are.

Great idea for local women. It will be good having something like this on the east side. I quite like the idea of 3pm start. As long as people know when it starts they can work around it. When is the 1st one.

thank you all again for your suggestions and interests,

Let me give some more details;

1. The first ŞİNYA BAZAAR will be held on June 4th, 2011.

2. It will be a whole day event so any stall holders can come early in the morning and start selling.

3. We'll try to arrange a shadow place for stalls, first option; under our solar panels, second option using umbrellas in the garden or car park, third option using our hobby gardens area.

4. We'll provide picnic tables as a stall

5. stall rentals; food stalls 20TL, trade stalls 20 TL, handicraft and/or souvenir stalls (self produced and/or women clubs) 10TL, book stalls 10 TL, original CD DVD stalls 10TL( illegal copies not allowed),

to be continued but later...

let's go ahead

6.any artist to do paintings or caricatures is 10 TL

7. we are open to any other categories

8. sorry we'll not give any free stalls for charity purposes, we are thinking that we have to support local women first, as we are runing our business under ecotourism. but we can give some other options for charity purposes. if anyone interested for organizing activities for charity purposes we can help in using our facilities.

9. Registration has started, but pls note that we want to promote personal skills and local products, so we may limit the number of trade stalls. (local means not only turkish villagers but also all other nationalities living around here )

10. these are general concept and not solid rules

we hope Şinya Bazaar will last many years and make east side more attractive.

demands will show us our way.

we'll also promote our ŞİNYA Bazaar to tour operators to attract tourist groups.

hello janjin,

We'll start by 10:00 am in the first event.

but after speaking tour operators we may change it. If they bring their groups in the morning for example from girne to karpaz may be it is better to start a little earlier. time and visitors profile will show us the most convenient time.

12 stalls have been rented until now.

Sorry we could not provide umbrellas for further stalls if anyone interested. on the other hand I have asked some more umbrellas from some companies, if they can deliver them before the bazaar starts, then it will be possible to use them in the market place.

I'm going to advertise Şinya Bazaar in the web page of Kibris Gazetesi. I'm going to put Şinya's link there in June for one month, and hope this will make our bazaar well published among locals.

Oh Yudu, I do hope it is successful for you and all those taking part, but I do worry. You say you want to help local people to earn an income.

But you're a restaurant and you'll be getting an income from people who come to visit your restaurant to eat and drink, probably encouraged to do so by the prospect of the chance to look around a 'local' market. So charging your 'other' customers 20tl a stall seems a bit steep. Your 'local ladies' that you want to support will have to sell a lot of produce before they start to earn their income. May be you thought you would keep all the 'crappy' stalls away by charging a high fee but you've already made it clear what sort of a market you want to promote so that shouldn't be an issue any more.

Why don't you lower your prices to encourage more stall holders to attend. And the stallholders then won't have to inflate their prices to sell their goods. When goods are too expensive people won't buy from them and they will soon lose heart.

Hi Pippie,

I do agree with you that 20ytl is a little steep for a table and this could put some people off. It is more expensive

than the Alcan or Soyze Bar but hopefully stallholders will not have to increase their goods to compensate, as this

will put the punters off buying. I will have a stall on the first market but will just have to see how that goes before

deciding if it is financially viable to continue.

hello again,

sorry for late reply,

Today my web page link is published on the Kibris gazetesi internet page. http://www.kibrisgazetesi.com it's on the main page at the middle. And I've just upgraded my web page http://www.sinyaclub.com

You can have more information about our business, vision and activities there. It's in English.

I've put Şinya bazaar also there.

I'm trying to promote Şinya bazaar to the whole island and if we can keep it permanent with it's unique concept, then I'm sure we can attract local people and also get the interest of tour operators and they will send their groups to our market. I'm thinking long therm.

I have written before that we want to promote local products, as we are running our business under eco tourism. our main goal is to attract tourist groups in the long therm, and hope they will buy souvenirs produced by local women or villagers. I have announced that these stalls will be 10 TL, including table and free drinks ( water, tea, coffee)

to be

we announced food stalls 20 TL because;

it is easy to sell food compared to handicrafts or souvenirs. so food sellers may earn more money than other stall owners.

On the other hand handicrafts and souvenirs takes more time to produce them and they will make our bazaar as a eco-market, which will match our business concept.

The other thing is I have offered to those who has already rented a stall at Şinya Bazaar, we will charge half price if they can't make any profit. win win is better we think.

Finally I can say that a market for tourists providing local products is really needed on the island. Tourists mostly come summer time but there isn't any local market for them who interest with eco tourism. We want to provide this at Şinya. It is really expensive for us to promote it, but we have managed to put our link at the web page of kibris gazetesi and hope this will attract many people in the mid therm. Our link will be there one month.

regards

Any more markets, please avoid Saturday or Sunday to give more people already tied up going to other markets (stallholders) the chance to be involved too. The more stalls, the more it'll look like a market.
