Well i do hope so James....I arrive next week after 28 days in the middle east with no pork.....and no alcohol so first priority is normally a bacaon butty washed down with a gallon of Efes. I'll let you know if you haven't had an answer by then.

Good to hear it Deniz 1. So what about ham? I usually get this from Bells ..and did so when last in Kibris at end of April. Has that changed? Any comments?

Rumour has it English bread and ham being removed from Bells. Erdener are starting to do some different ham, not as good as Bells but better than the salami stuff.

It is all fresh sliced meat that has been banned. If it is imported in sealed packs (fresh or frozen) with an export health certificate then it is permitted. Bells used to slice and pack their own bacon and ham - hence the ban. It is also permitted from approved local factories - but they of course do not do ham or bacon.

Errrr...the ham we bought from Hur Deniz a couple of years ago wasn't too good. Yes the slices were thick but it was that reformed stuff that tasted yeuchy! Haven't been back to em since! The ham we got from Bells was always of top quality. Wonder if Lemar/Tempo etc would start getting some of the sealed stuff in if we asked the management?

Totally agree that the bacon and ham was the best in the North (I have met). Their frozen bacon is better than most in water content. Perhaps the Pork Shop can provide (and possibly have plans to) both.

We were at the HSBC bank in Girne last week and stopped at a little 'cafe' round the corner. Had a lovely Cappuccino and the lady cooks and slices her own ham which we bought, it was the best we have had here - delicious.
