Not a cheerful one I know but has to be faced. If someone retires out there then dies, What are the options, for burial or cremations or shipping home. Is it difficult and what are the costs. Are there any inheritance thresholds or any other taxes, depending on state of residency? Thanks.

The only thing I can provide is that it is best if one makes a will in the TRNC and registers it. I've been told if there isn't a will and no direct heir the state could claim ownership of property. perhaps someone knows the actual legal position and whether this true

James, There is a "new" British Cemetry in Lapta just recently opened. It is located behind the Muslim cemerty, so you can get buried there. I think there are only a coulple of people buried there at the moment.

You should make a will in the TRNC, as soon as you buy any property, otherwise it can drag out. As far as being buried etc, in my opinion, when I die they (the remaining reatives) can do what they like with my remains. I just don't want them to have to be left with a lot of legalities because I did not do a TRNC will.
