Head of the I.M.F was arrested on an aircraft from New York to Paris today. Charged with attempted rape and sexual imprisonment. This charge carries a 15 to 20 year term if he is found guilty according to the laws of the state of New York. Dominic Strauss Khan will plead not guilty. France is stunned as he was reported to be standing next year against Sarkozy. Why would a man in that position do that. He could buy one in x

Msg 1 Look at his past history and I think you'll find it's not the first time he's been accused of altercations with the opposite sex. From memory he had an affair with his secretary or someone in his department. Good luck to him, he's a shagger, but doubt whether he'd risk the position he holds by the kidnapping and sexual harassment charges he's been arrested for! For sure, a USA stitch up, not allowing his meeting with Angela Merkel today and the meeting tomorrow with the EU to sort out the Greek bail-out! Richard

Justice works in a mysterious ways. If he did what he is supposed to have done, why not? Just because he seems to have fooled a lot of people for a very long time, it does not mean that he will get away with it for ever. Moshe Katsav thought he would get away with it because of his position. Temptation is too strong when one thinks that they would get away with it.

Msg 8 The accuser, a 32 year old hotel chambermaid?! He was flying 1st class to Paris when arrested so I'd presume he'd been staying in a luxury hotel where the doorman would've been able to organise a bit of 'rumpy pumpy' with total discretion! It doesn't stack out! Richard

He departed in a rush leaving his mobile phone and other items in the hotel room and taking a last minute flight to Paris ! He had only booked into N.Y. on Friday afternoon and had meetings arranged for tomorrow ! Seems like a man on the run to me ! Chambermaid taken to hospital and examined before he was taken from the plane about to depart. Of course he is innocent until proven guilty, but I don't think he will get away with it this time.

Head of the IMF forgets his mobile?! The $ is bust but too big to fail, the € will fail if Greece defaults which will artificially strengthen the $, which also happens to sustain the IMF, all to the benefit of America! Richard

Msg 15 Totally! Dominique Strauss-Kahn is/was well ahead in the French polls to oust Sarkozy in the forthcoming French Presidential elections so why risk anything at all? He obviously didn't meet USA needs and aspirations so had to be 'disposed' of asap, and better still, to be stitched up on yankee land! Richard

The yanks can't stand the French who ever is in power. In true Yankee tradition, they will give him a fair trial and then they will hang him. I wonder if he uttered the word surrender and if he did not, why did they not shoot him 27 million times?

The head of the IMF with so much inside information and knowledge about World financial affairs decides to run for President of a UN Security Council Country which is not sycophantic to the needs of the USA, what do you think?! (rhetorical) Richard

When he was found to have strayed before - his wife was quoted as saying "of course - he's a Minister isn't he" an atittude often adopted by some French wives - so aside from the fact he has proven 'history' in going outside of his marriage to other women, having a wife that gives you a public 'hall pass' I consider it quite likely that an arrogant male such as he appears, would think a 'lowly' black (not sure if that is relevant - but to his mind - may be)? chambermaid would be grateful to be thrown on a bed, and when she fought him off and managed to get away from him, he pounced on her again, and dragged her to the bathroom and "forced" her to perform a sexual act upon him. This is of course all anecdotal, but with talk of DNA in the rooms and the woman having been taken to Hospital/interviewed by Police BEFORE they dragged him off the plane, I do believe - all in all - there is something in this - I don't think he can be entirely innocent.

His backers for his candidacy for the Presidential Elections would have made sure that he understood the delicate situation about personal behaviour ... and these people don't muck about! I consider it odds-on that he was set up in a pre-planned but opportunistic incident to discredit him from any other high profile appointment but in particular the Presidency. You would not believe all the dirty work that goes on behind the scenes! This aint nothing

We will have to wait to see if he is guilty or innocent. We can only speculate here, nothing more. Many people who have power (and you don't get much more powerful than head of the IMF) have highly inflated egos which can help create a false sense of invincibility. It sounds like it is well noted that he is pushy with women, so combine illusions with grandeur (staying in a $3000 dollar a night room) and poor impulse control when it comes to the opposite sex, it may be possible that he overstepped the mark. Personally, I think this is more plausible than the conspiracy theories floating around on this thread, but hey, you never know. Its not in the US interest for the European economy to fail and for France to be in turmoil. It was not long ago that Obama cited France as the United States most trusted ally. I am sure it is not lost on many Americans that Independence from the British was not possible without the help and assistance of the French.

He has been imprisoned without bail - I think that speaks volumes - almost as much as the women who are now coming out of the woodwork, accusing him of sexual assaults left right and centre from times past........

Dominique Strauss-Kahn latest. Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is released from house arrest amid doubts about the credibility of his accuser, say reports. (BBC News) Looks like a stitch up to me! Richard

Charges will be dropped as the case is going to fall apart, even her defense team are now starting to question her story, also a conversation she had regarding what she could make from this case if she reported it. There is evidence to support something happend between the two of them but maybe not in the way she tells the story.

It was prosecuters not the defence that found a big whole in this case, if the prosecution doesnt believe the story then what chance has anybody else of believing it........all charges will be dropped I think and he will now relaunch his political carreer making out he is the victim..................

The prosecution are her lawyers, defending her but prosecuting him,but they do not believe her. Sounds about right to me . She was talking the day before to some one in jail and the call was recorded, she discussing with the man in jail on the phone what advantages could be gained from going down the prosecution route. Nasty woman.

What's the matter with every one. He has been accused by a french reporter of good repute of almost the same thing some years back, but she never reported it then. The man is guilty as hell and should be hung up to dry no matter how much power he held, after he has had a fair trial and all that.

This man has lost a very high powered/paying job. He has also probably lost the future job of French President. Anyone care to care to speculate about the size of the compensation and who will be paying it? I don't think he will ever need to work again.

In my HO he is guilty as sin and he has paid the accuser to change her evidence for a healthy sum. thereby negating a trial !

The maid, the accuser, has just gone public and, in my mind, she must be one of the ugliest, overweight females I've seen in a long time! There's no accounting for taste but I cannot see how a very wealthy man, let alone a poor one, could even think about 'IT'! Richard
