President Dervis Eroglu has said that the promises given by the European Union regarding the embargoes imposed against the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have not been kept. The President noted that the EU trying to impose an additional protocol in Cyprus is nothing more than a double standard.

He made the statement while he attended the TRNC promotional night at the Maltepe Municipality’s Turkan Saylan Cultural Center.

President Dervis Eroglu said that this event allowed the TRNC and Turkey to embrace one another and reminded that the Cyprus Turkish people had spent a lifetime trying to unite with their brothers.

‘We were able to unite with our brothers on the 20th of July 1974 and with the support of Motherland Turkey we have reached where we are today’, said the President.

Reminding that the Cyprus cause was a national cause for Turkey since 1955, the President said since 1955 Motherland Turkey has been meticulously working on the Cyprus issue.

Explaining that at the end of many years of struggle a state was established by the Cyprus Turks in Cyprus, President Dervis Eroglu said they were working towards overcoming the problems being experienced by the state adding that due to the support given by Turkey they were able to survive despite the imposed embargoes.

Noting that the promises given by the EU regarding the embargoes had not been kept, President Eroglu said the EU trying to impose an addition protocol in Cyprus is nothing more than a double standard.

‘They want us to give and take, well then they should keep their promises and open up the ports’ said the President.

He continued to explain that the TRNC and Turkey were in solidarity and is searching for a solution that would protect the rights and interest of Turkey and the TRNC.

Noting that they were moving towards a third summit and the Greek Cypriot side has made excessive demands at the negotiating table President Eroglu said the Cyprus Turkish side’s aim is establishing a new partnership based on 2 founding politically equal states.

The president concluded his speech by pointing to the importance of Turkey declaring 2011 as the year of North Cyprus tourism in its country.

‘This will aide the economy of the TRNC’ said the President.

As far as all the cheated and swindled expats are concerned, his 'promises' have simply turned out to be the euphemistic claptrap everyone knew they would!

And what about the Turkish Ambassador, who is reported to have offered 'tea and sympathy'..... ?
