Hi all,

I received a speeding fine when I crossed the border to the Greeck side last week end, and I've crossed the border many times before without being told. The fine was for about 8 months ago.

Could someone tell me what'd happen if i go back out of the country in july.

Thank you for the information.

Alex

Why not just pay it? unless you dispute it.

I got one when crossing last month, and says you must go to police station within 48 hours otherwise fine will increase( 187 tl) 93 in 65 limit did not know my little Vitz 1 litre went that fast.

Mine was 1 year old!!

Just make sure they don't try to load you with extras for late payment. Take the chitty that they should give you on exit or entry that says this is the first time you've heard of it. Happened to me, I apparently had three, when we'd sold that car 18 months beforehand. One was mine and the other two were for the subsequent owner. They were very good at Girne police station.

I suggest you go to Girne police and pay it otherwise you may not be able to leave the country and definately won't be able to crossover to the south...

You will not be allowed to leave the country without paying the fine.

Off topic a bit, I got stopped for a random check a few months back, got a producer to take to Girne police station (didn't have my driving license or car docs on me). Cost me 60tl. Suprisingly though the police officer at the station only wanted to see my driving license.

To get back on topic, my mate got a fine going over the border from a speed cam 3 years previous

Just go and depart from your hard earned cash. If you want to dispute it, make sure you were not the person driving at the time, they not only take picture of car number plate but also picture of person driving at the time. The hold all pictures in Lefkosa, so you would need to do some running around too, not worth the hassle.

Drive carefully everyone, big brother is watching!

Pay the fine. I know somebody who was on their way to Larnaca for a flight when she was stopped at the border and sent back to Girne Police Station to pay the fine - no argument. By the time she'd done that and crossed the border again she'd missed her flight. Because it was a 'cheap' deal flight she had to rebook with another airline and it cost her a fortune. Pay the fine. We all get notification of fines months after they occur. Pay the fine and be done with it.
