The most important factor in running a business is employing the right people to get the job done and at a cost that keeps your business competitive.

The other side of the coin, foreign workers are much more willing to work for a smaller income... I employed Polish Plasterers, they worked harder and longer than the local "spreads" and did a superior job...............No contest...Sad but true....

It was the same in the late 60s and early seventies in the northwest of england, many pakistanis came to work in the cotton mills on night shift as local people would not do the 14 hour shifts and did not want to work in such a hot sticky cotton mill.

Foreign workers are always needed in the UK.

The Eastern Europeans do a job that our British work force turn up there noses too! Its unfortunate that most now in GBdon't want to do the same sort of work that these E.E people do.

If employers were to pay more than the min wage on a lot of the menial work, you would see food prices etc rise. We cannot have it both ways.

Nothing would please most employers to be able to employ British workers, but they would not do the job even if you paid top whack! the answer you get is, 'we have been to Uni', or got 'higher education', we don't like doing that, so wont do it... In other words, most want an easy job....

some large retailers exploit foreign workers and import in large scales to gain more profit .

for instance my father in law lived in spain ....large uk supermarkets proudly bought all the land up off the locals and grew their own fruit .Locals still were paid local rates for picking ,large supermarkets in question relaese even bigger record profits

For those that except low paid jobs boils down to SURVIVAL, for those that exploit this workforce also boils down to SURVIVAL. It's a funny old World! To put an end to this would result in person trying to survive on low income suddenly has no income, and those exploiting would up prices and lose sales, hence putting business at risk. We the consumers are the ones that determine the fate of these people. Will you pay more for your goods or service???? Or, are you a real bargain hunter, be honest with yourself.

Its a good point.

At the end of the day globalisation is splitting society in to two distinct groups

1) The skilled technological worker who can command high wages. With the high wages comes autonomy recognition, status, mastery and a sense of purpose. These are all the ingredients for a long successful, happy and healthy life.

2) The unskilled worker, who has to compete ruthlessly with other unskilled workers ( migrants) vying for boring, tough and low paid work, work that is devoid of meaning. These jobs are scarce because they are increasingly being done by robots or are being outsourced. These workers have low incomes, no control over their work, no purpose, no mastery or autonomy. They are destined to live their life in poverty, often plagued by bouts of depression and anxiety. Their only immunity is have large familys. The only solace will be in f
