What makes you think fly screens will keep mossies out?

Get a fan or the aircon going. Keep the windows shut.

I was just about to post the same thing. It is not just mossies but also very tiny midges called sandflies - you can hardly see them! I have been to the pharmacist and have now had 2 injections of a product called Kortikosteroid in addition to taking vitamin B1 and still they are biting. B1 has helped me before but not this time. There seems to be an influx of them, not helped by the intermittent rain. Behind us too, there are some half a dozen empty pools with stagnant water in them providing the ideal breeding ground! There must be something out there to stop these vile little things.

I understand that in Canada you can buy 'mossie' repellant [rub on/spry on] with a much higher concentration of 'Deet' than in most EU countries - try hikers and campers stores.

You could buy a 12 gauge double-barrel shot gun and a coupla three boxes of ammo - cos you'll need it if your 'mossies' are as big as the ones I saw and experienced when in Canada and Alaska!

Ask the Belediyesi to look at the stagnant water as they can treat it to prevent it being a health hazard.

Thanks Crofter - I will do that. Hopefully they can do something but the pools are on a building site.

Try the Vape plug ins - the geranium ones work best I find - also the lemon cologne is very effective - spray this in the room and also on yourself to keep them away.

Once flyscreens are fitted dont forget to spray them with mossy spray to keep the sand flies out too!!! they are so small they can pass through most nets!!!

I went to my fathers village in Büyük Konuk a few years ago.. having many bites on me the villagers told me to apply Raki on my skin....it worked! They drank and fell asleep or most probably died from an overdose!

Also there are large yellow sticky tags sold at Homecentre in the South, any flying insect would stick to it.. Good Luck!

It is highly unlikely that they are coming in through the windows at that altitude. Mozzies generally stay pretty close to the ground.

Possibly breeding in vases containing water/plants inside or on planters/window box’s located on a balcony?

Put some VODKA in a spray bottle and spray yourself with that. It's great. Keeps the mossies off when outside in the evening as well. The smell fades away quickly. Or you can put a bit of lavender oil in the vodka to make it smell better. Works for me. Also works to take the sting out of the bites, especially if you've scratched them. Be brave! While they're 'open' spray the vodka. You'll jump up and down but it will make the bite 'ooze' and it seems to kill it off.

Hi

As well as the Vitamin B1 you want a daily garlic capsule. Avon Skin so Soft of course. Any insect repellent that's 50% Deet. Most interesting solution was on this forum previously - turn all the lights out and leave the microwave door open; when enough of the little bastards have congregated, shut the door and zap 'em.

Cheers

judyr.....no matter as they will be considered a health hazard and they should treat the water.

Creep over one night and pour some diesel or paraffin in the pool this will cure the problem and if they are not in use who would worry.

flyscreens on all doors and windows look ugly in my opininion,

though the silver ones look the best, they may or may not be effective

last december we were plagued by the blighters, don't they ever hibernate?

a host of suggestions on the thread so far:

flypapers, bought or home-made are effective but more for moths and 'hoppers

and the same problem is supposed to apply to uv traps

have been vacuuming the blighters off the white walls and ceilings during the day,

quite easy to see when they are resting up, this reduces attacks by 50% at night

another suggestion is tape or bead curtains between the rooms,

and you can also buy a folding gauze door-screen by mail order in the uk

Report the offending pool to the Belediye. Sometimes I'm told it is taken very seriously and a fine dished out as well as the pool being treated.

Alsancak Belly certainly used to take stagnant swimming pools very seriously. Three years ago we had to call them out to treat a pool next door. They were up next day, sprayed it all over. Came back the next day and did the same again and came two days later to check there were no further larva or live mozzies. Cost then was about 50tl. Certainly worth a try in your area.

Look for the mossie repellent 'Vape' in the lime green spray plastic bottle - it works well for us!

What about all those midges in Ontario and Nova Scotia?
