We renewed insurance yesterday, making sure we had earthquake cover:

my insurance cover has always included earth quake cover and should as it was altamaticly included till 3yrs ago so youi are wise to make sure you are still covered and if it is rubish why did they stop including it 3yrs ago unless you stated it make sure you have it as you could be crying one day

I did hear someone say that the Troodos were a natural protection against major earthquakes and that the south of the island would probably be more affected. However, I think there is a major fault near Mersin. Perhaps someone with geological knowledge may enlighten us.

Think you are right in insuring against quakes - Paphos was hit by quite a big one in about 1952 with many deaths and we have felt the aftershocks of a couple on the Turkish coast which did damage to several homes here. I thought every policy covered this - ours has done for the whole time we have lived here.

The British are great over insurers, the earthquake risk in North Cyprus is negligible to nothing, slightly different in the South due to the Cyprian Arc but still slight, there are many reports on it if you Google it.

In Turkey, I am reliably informed by someone who lives there that earthquake cover is compulsary.

Will google, Pugwash. Any comments on the impact of the fault near Mersin on the north coast of Cyprus?

If I had dodgy property in north Cyprus I'd be praying for an earthquake.

‘Akkuyu is at risk of an earthquake’

Professor Selim İnan, Geological Engineering Department, Mersin University

“There is at great risk of a tsunami similar to the Japanese. The way earthquakes occur in this region is similar to those in Japan. Throughout history, similar earthquakes have happened around Crete and such an earthquake could easily hit the southern provinces of Turkey, including Muğla, Antalya, Mersin, Adana and İskenderun. There is a fault line called the Ecemiş Fault connected to the East Anatolian Fault Line only 25 kilometers away from where the nuclear plant will be built. In general, these fault lines could create serious earthquakes and tsunamis in the future.”

What has Akkuyu got to do with North Cyprus? Please look at its location on a map and see if you seriously think that it may get a Tsunami?

Indeed Mersin was mentioned Scoty, but again please look at where Akkuyu actually is, or maybe you are not bothered with real facts.

Don't insurers class it as an 'Act of God'
