Constitutional Lawyers from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey have gathered at the Near East University to discuss the Constitutional democracy in the Globalize World. During the 3-day meetings which was jointly organized by the Near East University and the Turkish Public Lawyers Platform, lawyers will discuss the position of the Constitutional Court, Social State Principle, Constitutional Democracy, Unitary State and problems faced by the TRNC both in national and the international arena.

The opening of the meetings took place at the NEU Big Library this morning.



Delivering the opening speech, the Near East University Rector Umit Hassan said that views that will be put forward during the meetings will have positive impacts on the future.



Also speaking, the President of the Turkish Bar Association Ahsen Coşar touched upon the discussions over the consitution in Turkey and said ‘Turkey needs a new constiution and this kind of meetings would contribute to the process’.

The President of the Public Lawyers Platform Professor Dr. Fazıl Sağlam for his part, said that the aim of the meeting was to bring different views together regardless of political interests.



Also speaking, the Deputy Rector of the Near East University Şenol Bektaş said touched upon relations between Turkey and the TRNC and said noone should accredited to negative statements over relations between the two countries.
