yesterday i almost got wiped out by a local who clearly ran a red light .he must have been less then 14 years old and an older man ,probably his father was sitting next to him .

another problem is parking ,they park everywhere including side walks and if somebody is in a wheelchair ,good luck getting around.

Hi Canada you will soon learn here. The driving skills if you could call them that leave a lot to be desired x

canada. Pointless using the crossings too they are just there to decorate the road.

Canada - as Liz has said, you'll soon learn. Mind you, even when you get the hang of it, it doesn't get any easier. I don't drive in TRNC at all, although I've held a driving licence for well over 40 years.

Remember the golden rule:

"Never, ever, use indicators if at all possible" - like the crossings, they appear to be for decorative purposes only

Joining a road look out for" undertakers "

So you come to a "T" junction with a main road watch for the cars "undertaking" cars that are turning right on the road that you are entering.

In other words keep don't stick your nose into the dirt part at the side of the road

At roundabouts remember the golden rule..... There are no rules.

There would appear to be a seperate rule book for motorcycles/moped riders which they have not read.

And last but not least ..... Ex pats drive on the left, Turkish drivers on the right and Turkish Cypriot's drive in the middle.

When ever I am in Cyprus, I drive with no problems what so ever. You just have to concentrate a little harder not to hit anybody and not to give anybody else a chance to hit you. That's all. I wish M25 or the M1 was just as empty. The other day it took me 2 hours to do 5 miles.

Stop moaning, drivers everywhere are bad. Try Rome or Istanbul and see how you feel then? Perhaps Kabul or Baghdad even.

Just we have a few settlers and they have not learned how to drive, you are making such a big meal of it.

I remember being taken back to Ercan airport a few years ago, and the driver went through a red light. When questioned this he replied....'well there are no police about'.......

Yfred, re msg 7

>>Just we have a few settlers and they have not learned how to drive, you are making such a big meal of it<<

and I suppose it's those terrible Pontians who are the bad drivers in he 'south' ..? ;)

Mate, most Cypriots are TERRIBLE drivers - as they just don't obey the simplest rules of ANY highway code... but as you say - those other places are JUST as bad...

In Limas(s)ol I always stop on reds at Pelican crossings and get shouted at ... apparently only 'fools' stop at reds, if no-one's there... ;)

I had kicked and broke few car wing mirrors in uk,whilst riding, because they didn't like the idea of using it.....

But,I'm not sure if Cypriot drivers are realy bad or the ones wanting to put Cyprus right are on the increase!

In any case, have a look at this http://www.gadling.com/2010/05/05/the-worlds-10-worst-drivers/
