For those of you that live in the TRNC - How do you fill your day? If you don't work, what do you do all day long?

I have always said that for the majority of expats the biggest problem seems to be boredom. When in the uk most people didn't have a cleaner or a gardener or a bathroom in every room or a pool that is far to big for two people or five dogs instead of the two they had in the uk. So what seems to be the daily event in quite a few people is getting up, breakfast, dog walking, cup of tea, pub for lunch and a couple of pints, eventually talk to wife, back home, dog walking, cup of tea, pub for a few more beers, maybe dinner if the wife is not up for cooking, drive home over the limit because you can? have a nightcap on the terrace trying to think what the hell can we do tomorrow. I think more people should tackle their own garden and cleaning unless of course you are ill or working. So many people have spit up lately on the island which is sad and most of the time it is down to boredom or living in each others pockets 24/7. There I have said my piece now off for a pint before the wife hears

Well, we have been here for 4 years and can honestly say we have never been bored. We don't even know anyone who is bored. As for having cleaners, gardeners and a bathroom in every room - we wish!!!!.

We are genuinely thoroughly enjoying our retirement. We worked very hard to get here. What would we be doin gin the UK if retired? Sweet FA that's what. No money to do anything with. Certainly not lunching every day or spending our time in pubs drinking. We do almost everything together, ie, walk the dog, do the housework or gardening. We chose not to have a pool because of the upkeep and water wastage.

I don't know how many people you have met tarry67 but obviously they must be well off people with more money than sense. I cannot believe how you have lumped all ex-pats together to form your opinion of them but I can assure you that you are very wrong. We have a life here which we wouldn't have had in UK.

dozza67....totally agree.

Only been here 7 months....bored...what's that?

Need more hours in the day....6 month old puppy & gardening take up most of the day and that's without the other mundane chores to do.....cleaning, washing, cooking etc.

Boredom is for people who don't appreciate life and what it has to offer.

We spend our time learning Turkish, working to raise funds for charity, shopping for and preparing meals made with fresh ingredients for our family of four...

We don't cleaners or gardeners either.... don't know anyone who does - we are obviously mixing in the wrong circles... err or not.

We must live in a bubble as we don't engage in the activities mentioned in Tarry's post

Don't have time to be bored... if we've got a spare moment then we have plenty of books.... all those books and only one lifetime...

No time to be bored. Days fly by here so fast I just can't work it out. Still get up around 6am as if going to work and always doing something. Miss my job as a nurse in the prison but love not HAVING to go in and working 12 hour shifts 5 days a week. Used to be detained on duty whenever there was a problem or riot or hostage crisis. Pain in the ass. Would like to work 2 or 3 days a week but unable to get work here. Anyone needing a nurse for their elderly parent, Granny etc; Give me a call. Mitsi.

We have been here almost a year and it has gone by quickly, the first few months was like an extended holiday spending too much time drinking and eating out, then reality set in and we became sensible! never get up much before 9 o`clock leisurely breakfast, do any chores, gardening etc., spend some time on the computer, go swimming, walking, out for a ride, loads of reading and doing crosswords checking on friends properties, meeting up with Cyprus44 members for coffee (as we did today), I think the winter months can be the worst, especially the evenings, so we do intend to go out a bit more then for a drink/meal. If I was in the U.K. I would be watching Emmerdale/Coronation Street and loads of daytime T.V. now that is sad! Life over here is so much better, and I refuse to get bored.

Is there any voluntary work available in NC? For example teaching local children English or perhaps taking someone who is ill to hospital.
