Mes 1, I know exactly how you feel. My car installments are in pounds and it's a lot to pay out each month from my local TL salary when the pound is up. It can add another 100tl to the amount some months. Luckily I've only got another 10 months until it's paid off!

Me too!

Everything I have is in Lira. Can't understand why they use Sterling here as one would never use Turkish Lira or any other currency in the UK. Enlighten me someone.

It started being used when the Turkish Lira was too unstable but more recently it is as stable as Sterling so there is no need.

But I suspect old habits Bruce Willis, so you may not find anybody to lend you YTL.

The reason they use Sterling is twofold, one they like to hedge their bets as a lot of imports are bought in pounds or Euros etc and secondly many TC's have UK bank accounts..............................................

Msg 7

What bull! The reason that £ has been rising against TL has nothing to do about Sterling's strength but a subtle, hidden, controlled devaluation by the Central Turkish Bank to kick start Turkey's huge export manufacturing sector. The TL was overheating but a blatant devaluation as happened in February 2001 would have sent out to many shock-waves for economic stability and further growth.

The Wildebeest (bless her) uses worry free budgeting. If there are cheques left in the chequebook assume there is money in the bank !
