Is it greed that suckers people in to these sort of schemes?

Not too far from us here in GB , someone put into the papers abroad, America mainly, that they could buy a little slice of English country side, a plot of land that they could visit and camp on etc etc, all for the price of £20,000 and up wards.. Many bought this, not knowing it was just waste land and couldn't camp or do any thing with it...

Years ago in UK when property prices were booming month on month, I uncovered a scam when, in a very short period, half a dozen or so writs of possession arrived on my desk for the same defendant but all different claimant mortgage companies and different properties, the properties in question all being in one county. My investigations revealed that the defendant played the field of mortgage companies, rented out the properties and never paid any more than the first repayment. He knew there was no case in law for a possession action until at least 2 months of arrears and after court postponements, hearings etc, invariably any order for possession made would be suspended at least 90 days to give a chance to pay. In real terms he had the properties for well over a year, collected the rents, and when the possession writs were finally executed he had cash back from the mortgage companies as the sale proceeds by then exceeded the mortgage arrears and the fixed costs of the actions !

In Lewisham Borough we had a case (2004), smartly dressed lady would knock at someones house at approx 3.15pm and say that she'd broken down en route to picking up the children from school and could She use their phone to call her husband, then went through a staged one way conversation, speaking to secretary, "Well, get him out of the meeting !!", etc, ended up being a 2-3 minute call, then offered a pound coin for payment which was refused.

1 month later the householder received their bill!!!, The call had been made to a set up premium rate Number

at £40 - £60 per minute!!!,

She was eventually arrested and charged with Obtaining property(Money), by deception, God knows how many didnt report it, thinking it to be their other halves/kids., from memory She got 3 months probation!!!!

Honestly, who would fall for such scams. I mean as if you'd fall for someone telling you that buying a property was a safe investment, that your lawyer would look after your interests, checking for correct planning permissions, outstanding mortgages on your behalf, that the law would protect buyers, that the developer was an honest man who'd stick to the contract, deliver on time and to the price agreed...

Naturally you'd expect all that as a minimum in civilised Western democracies. But those who signed on the dotted line in a territory unrecognised internationally and which they knew full well was created as a result of war crimes must take responsibility for their own actions.
