Dear Friend,

I know this email may come to you as a surprise, due to the fact that you don't know me neither have we met. My name is Mr. Philip Patrick; I work with one of the banks in Europe. I am contacting you based on properties allocation. However, my main reason for contacting you is to seek and reach a mutual agreement with you. Thus I'll need your assistance to enable me and my colleagues transfer the sum of Ј30 Million (equivalent) which is to be used mostly on Properties.I will avail you with more details as soon as I hear from you. Please contact me through ppatrick012@hotmail.com

Warmest regards.

Philip Patrick

See how nice these people are. I don't know them but they can't wait to transfer money into my account.

They are so very, very kind and thoughtful. Why don't they ever write to me?

That's because you guys are not so nice.

I replied explaining that my prefered method of transaction is cash in a briefcase left in a safety box at Euston station. Can he email me the combination after depositing the cash there. And thanked him for his trust in me and assured him that I would not let him down. I will collect the cash.

I just can't believe how lucky I am.

The best so far I have received was from Miss Ban Ki Moon. She said the United Nations were compensating property victims and I had been brought to their attention, you know the rest, I think, although I was laughing so much as I deleted it, I was up for nine million euros.

Does anyone ever actually fall for these scams?

Yeah I did about 5 years ago. Promised me millions just for me to open a bank account in UK for them. Bit sceptical but did as they asked, and yes, it was a con. I ended up with a lousy £100k instead of the millions they promised. Won't fall for that one again.

I have a file of these wonderful offers, just to prove that by now I should be a multi billionaire, but all I am left with is my original overdraft! But I do know someone onisland who followed through out of curiosity. It was all to help someone dying with cancer (sob sob) and all the person had to do was open a bank account (as someone mentioned above) with, of course a small sum of money which would be added to at a laterdate. Just imagine a thousand people depositing a thousand pounds to start a bank account in joint names. Guess who is the winner?

Quite often it is an attempt at identity scams but I find is fascinating how these people try with appalling English even pretending to be Euro Millions Lottery, or some such, copying logos etc. But I assure one and all that Cyprus 44 has neither increased nor decreased these. Most of them, I think, originaate through hotmail accounts,

Actually much as I deplore the kind of person who tries to con money out of others, I find such

I used to receive them before the Internet. A very nice man from the Nigeria Petrol Ministry sent me a letter and wanted to deposit millions of pounds in my account in the 80s.

It really is nothing new, just a different medium for delivery.

Never mind Lilli, what is rule in U.K is not rule here! Maybe in U.K you will have to provide passport number etc, etc, but hurray for TRNC where one can be what one wants to be without choking red tape. Yes, there is a downside to that but the gypsy in my soul prefers TRNC 'standards'

Msg 17: "Yes, there is a downside to that but the gypsy in my soul prefers TRNC 'standards'"

Whereas the "journalist" in your soul should be calling corruption, nepotism and chaotic maladministration properly to account. While backing up unprofessionally wild claims with fact. But then again, in the TRNC you can pretend to be anything you want.
