Before you express an opinion let us first think GB/TRNC.. Thanks to a Rothschild, blowing the whistle , we now learn that two guests enjoying his hospitality on a Billionaire (Russian) mega million pound yatch, off Corfu, are wait for it. Lord Mandelson (Doyen of spin and New Labour) and your friend and mine Mr Osborne Shadow Chancellor ( doyen of The Conservative Party) (WITH SINCERE APPOLOGIES TO No 1Doyen). The whole bloody lot have got their snouts in the trough! So where do you go to live to escape all this corruption, deceit, spin, underhanded, behind your backs manipulation? The TRNC or GB, or is there a country where you can find good old fashioned quality of life. Is there anywhere were you can respect your fellow man, live with a clear conscience, and be true children of the universe.? We have spent Billions baling out the DISHONEST bankers, and what will the working man get? TH Daily we see the arguments of where you can attain a decent quality

'absolute power corrupts absolutely'. It happens all over the world Wyn. It's not a British problem but a human issue. The system and structure needs to change. The trouble is that the system is held together by those that are currently benefiting from it. From what I understand Singapore spends an inordinate amount of time ensuring that their next premier is intellectually, emotionally and worldly astute as well as being incorruptible. Our political system encourages the machiavelian, the workaholic, chameleon and smiling assasin - in other words the dysfunctional. In any case Wyn just chill, things are not going to change anytime soon

There are several; essential qualities for politics in the UK [or anywhere else for that matter] 1] The libido of a buck rabbit [eg Cecil Parkinson, Paddy Ashdown and even good old John Major apparently. 2] A speach impediment [eg Woy Jenkins] 3] Puclic school education. In this case you can go straight from a good session of buggery to running the country quite seamlessly. 4] Be a compete stranger to the truth. [eg all of them!] 5] When all of these fail change your name to Mendelson and even if you are caught with your hand in the till you can first get a better paying post in European Commission. On top of the life gets even better because you return to the cabinet and get a Knighthood thrown in for good measure.

ILC, I love your informative and knowledgeable postings. I respect your balanced opinions, BUT when it comes to politicians....."The whole lot, are a pack of bastards!" £150,000 per year PLUS, to represent their constituents, and what do they do........swan and more swan, unconscionable, and a disgrace to the Country that keeps them. They should be ashamed! wyn

Politicians suffer the worst possible character trait of all... namely the belief that what they are doing is the best, most powerful and most important job in the world... They can't understand that not everybody else holds these same views... this makes them blind... in their blindness they stumble from disaster to disaster.

Wyn..Hip-hip hoorah..I told you in one of my earlier posts that they are as bad as one another. They are all in it for what they can get out of it and it will never change. I bet this episode has just set the Tories back afew points and Cameron Along with Brown will be spitting nails at those two. As for where to go to to avoid all this,I think it would have to be some deserted island in the middle of nowhere, then some bugger will come along and spoil it.So keep your blood pressure down Wynn and just think about the Efes!!!!!

By the way it isn't only the MP's who are at. Less publicised is Prince Andrew's new found unsavoury friends in Kazakhtsan. Worked there two years and Prince Andrew's financial misdealings were legendary. I am no apologists for politicians but teh Royal Family do seem to be able to get away with far more without it being plastered all over the media.

msge 27 oilman friend of mine used to work at RAF Northolt. The Royals are constsntly using the planes, treating them like taxis or buses, to fly to places like Norwich, Plymouth etc. Costing us a fortune.

ILY That is also a well known fact but how often do you hear that conveyed in the news? OK William and Harry get bad press but very few people are actually really critical about them. The royals are also an unelected and outdated body that has no place in modern society.

Oilman I remember going to see the movie the Queen (I went screaming and kicking but a friend insisted) and the cinema was packed with pensioners. Clearly the Royal famil;y is important to them. It has a different menaing for them. In those days there seemed to be a sense of those who are chosen and those who follow. Everyone knew their place and accepted it. The queen also felt it was her duty to serve the people, this fact has been lost on her children.

ILC...Just think about the RAF people they are keeping in a job, planes got to be serviced ,pilots and navigators keeping up there flying hours so when they retire they can walk into top flying job with BA. not abad little number on the Queens Flight, seriously though thay do misuse there privalages in that respect I onse read some where, think it was READERS DIGEST that Queens ROYAL estatyes etc brought in more money to the Treasury than she took out,if so llllllleave her where she is and curtail her waywood family members....

It goes against the grain as a life long believer in meritocracy that having a Royal Family has always made Britain a top tourist destination... which brings in loads of money and provides real jobs... I'd still shoot half of them (joking) come the revolution as having no merit in evidence but the pragmatist in me can't deny they do draw in money and let's face it there are plenty of other filthy rich people who don't have much merit and don't draw in any tourists either.

I agree, we keep the Queen but only as we do a Queen Bee... whilst she is still useful... most of the rest can go get a proper job. Prince Philip has to stay just to keep us all amused with his foot in the mouth gaffs... he's nearly as funny as Boris King of Londinium... I draw the line at Bonnie Prince Daffy and Her Royal Ugliness taking up the cudgel should the Queen cop her clogs... which I suppose she must as I'm the only one going to live forever.... I think succession needs to skip a generation and young King Billy should be our next kept man...

SPELLS TO MAKE GOOD WISHES COME TRUE hi everyone perhaps you would like to try this:- Hi I want to share this spell with the people: Put three candles in the highest place you have at home, inside a plate with sugar all around the candles. Light the candles. Ask for three wishes to your guardian angels ST. RAFAEL, ST. MICHAEL, and ST. GABRIEL. Ask one wish for business, one wish for love, and one impossible wish. Publish this spell on the third day after you requested the wishes [by mailing it to another person, posting it to a usenet newsgroup, or announcing your thanks to the saints in a newspaper classified ad] and see what happens on the fourth day...

I can't accept this argument about the Royals being worthwhile because of tourism and it is always trotted out every time somebody wants to justify their existence. Vesailles Palace in France is huge tourist dollar earner and we all know what happened to the previous occupants of that establishment! If that is the only basis for keeping this anochronism alive then it is a very poor argument.

I have the utmost respect for the Queen and for the stability that the monarchy has brought our country through hundreds of years. However I am beginning to feel that the institution of royalty has served its time and is now an unnecessary financial burden on the whole country. They have no powers as such but it's the money that they are entitled to through heritage that I have a problem with. Similarly the same can be said of the Lords. Remove the Monarchy, remove the Lords and move toward a Senate/House of Representatives system which is more in line with a democratically elected and fair system.

No1Doyen I quite agree! Buckingham Palace is ideal for conversion into 500 studio flats. Windsor Castle perfect for a secure Asylum Hostel. Lets return all National Trust properties to locals, the timber alone would keep villagers in firewood for ages! Perhaps we should also get rid of all these expensive to maintain 'ruins' and Mosaics in places like Cyprus and Turkey, even the Pyramids in Egypt, loads of good building material there! The Mosaics could be re-designed by Polish tilers to look like Jordan & Peter Andre artwork for new Villas! p.s. Have you got any rich relatives? Can I have their money? I'll put the proposal to the workers Bureau! Rob

"Reds in their beds", I thought this was Tory propaganda against Labour, it would seem that the Tories now want to try it. I am pleased to see some members at last are seeing that they are all the same, and have to agree with the points Wyn made in message 1, but at the end of the day we have to elect a Government and I personally have more trust in Brown than that phoney Cameron.
