Barack Obama's cavalcade car caused some drama when it got stuck emerging from the gates of the US embassy in Dublin.

The low bottom of the car, nicknamed 'the beast' because of its bomb-proof features, seemed to catch on a ramp crossing over the gateway.

It is not clear if Mr Obama was in the car involved as security officials blocked the view of the incident.

The US President and First Lady then left by another exit.

Well mark they will get him there by however means. You know what we are like. I remember once doing a show in Cork. It poured down all week. We were selling cosmetic products. The girls I had working for me young and beautiful. All High heels and short skirts, (their choice not mine) well we got the car stuck in the mud. Panic, How do we get to open up I though. Low and behold a tractor with a trailer pulled up and took us all to our stand. If you could have seen us.Every day they waited for us. Now where would you get that, they didnt even get theie shoes dirty. Forget Limos when you can get there by tractor x

How did they get it off the ramp in the end? Too heavy for a normal jack?

I was home in Dublin recently and was amazed with how good the roads and infrastructure were. The fecking armoured car was too low to the ground and got stuck on a not too steep ramp. No way was it too big for the Irish roads. ( only sad Norn Iron Prods use the word Oirish!)

I watched it on TV this morning and the clank as metal crunched on tarmac was very audible. Apparently Mr and Mrs O were not in it and they didn't show how they managed to dislodge it.

Yea!

Leave 6ms alone. He is one of "us" after all.

I have never heard anyone from NornIrn or the Free State use that word. I tought it was the title of a newspaper - The Oirish Sun!!!!

Will this incident qualify as an American joke? Maybe Negnick can use it next week.

MY use of the term 'Oirish' is merely an accentual of the phonetic .. nought more..

By the way the "Free State" ceased to exist in 1937. The country is called Ireland.

The Irish Free State (Irish: Saorstát Éireann) (1922–1937) was the state established as a Dominion on 6 December 1922 under the Anglo-Irish Treaty, signed by the British government and Irish representatives exactly twelve months beforehand..... The Irish Free State came to an end in 1937, when the citizens voted by referendum to replace the 1922 constitution. It was succeeded by the entirely sovereign modern state of Ireland.

I never understood why many folk in N.Ireland still describe Eire / Rep. Ireland as "the free state"...it sort of implies it was 'good' to be free of being British !...

@ Zoots :

you can have your 'independence' as long as you can afford it .. Resident Scots folk get considerably more UK tax pounds per head than those resident in England, do ;)
