just sitting down for a evenings feast of football, so I have my footbll hat on. Saw in the paper today, that in 1 years time the Spanish player Arteta of Everton can play for England. Arteta has never played for Spain, hence why he can play for England. In my opinion, he is a quality player, good enough for the England squad. Would you play Arteta in an English team even though he is Spanish? Remember Deco, who is Brazilian plays for Portugal. After initial heavy resistance he has been accepted in to the team. ps Almunia at Arsenal is eligible to play for England.

Mark, if they are good enough then they should be able to play if they qualify.

ILC ..sounds good but dont you think it defeats the whole idea of being OUR national side. I think we have enough foreign players here without them being allowed to play for England....

He would be the Zola Budd of football... I think it's the slippery slope. It would be different if he was of Spanish descent but born here or one of his parents were... but it is simply playing with the spirit of a national side to allow it. What would happen if under the stewardship of English team coaching Spain suddenly decided they wanted him back?

If he was that good,he would already be playing for Spain. And as for an Arse player playing for England ,after Wallcott who was the last. ( and not including silly bot Cole)

Wow Groucho, I forgot about Zola Budd. Thats a blast from the past. If Arteta played for England Spain couldn't have him back. I take your point Groucho and Coachie. In reality there wouldn't be many foreigners eligible for England. Only very few quality players slip through the net. Most end up playing for their own country. The probable exception is Brazil, who export 600 players every year. Not all can play for their national team. Japal, I think Arteta might have slipped the net. I can't understand why they haven't given him at least one cap. Mind you Spain have an abundance of talent. They looked good in winning the European championship. Not much chance of anymore Arsenal players playing for England with all their foreigners . Mind you looked pretty good tonight against Fenebarche. I bet the Turks in Kyrenia are not too happy tonight.

ILC Zola did run in Bare Feet. Jack Wilshire will play for England eventually. Also possibly Randall and Simpson. Whether they will still be at Arsenal when that happens is another matter. Paul

You are right Harold, Wilshire looks a real prospect. You never know he might make the squad for South Africa
