I am leaving tomorrow for the UK, everytime I go over the border I get grief. It seems there is a traffic offence against me. I havent driven here for some time. We have been to the police at Leftkosia and Immagration. They found nothing. I asked Guido to go to the police here as I dont want grief at that hour in the morning when I cross, They said bring your wife tomorrow. After being messed about from office to office, it appears I had a parking fine in a jeep Guido borrowed from his friend. I had never driven it, also the car was in his friends name. Not only that the fine was in my maiden name. The fine was 160th now doubled as it hadnt been paid. I havent got time to contest as I leave tomorrow, this will reamain one of lifes mysteries Paid it in the hope Im not questioned any more x However would love to contest it x

Looks like every everyone must have just ;paid up', pity we cannot read the experiences of someone who has challenged the system.

Are you absolutely sure your speed was 71kph? If so, were I you, I would ask around for a good criminal lawyer whose fees do not make your eyes water.

I would instruct him, pre-trial, to ascertain the exact placement of the camera and also it's serial number (to avoid the Police attempting to do a switch later) if this information is not provided already.. These radar devices require a calibration test at regular intervals. Instruct the lawyer to refer to the legislation to ascertain what time intervals the calibration tests need to be carried out.

In court the lawyer should ask the police to furnish the calibration certificate in force for that camera at the time of the alleged offence...........

..... ctd

If the usual standard of maintenence and upkeep here prevails the odds are there would not be a valid certificate in force, but be that as it may that equipment was obviously faulty and if you exchanged details with those other drivers you mention then a joint instruction to one lawyer who could get all of your cases to be heard at the same time would be the way to go. Good Luck.

Hi Racoonchic,

I must have been one of the other 3 brits stopped when you were and fined 195tl for speeding, which I have no problem with as I was speeding. While I was being interigated several Cypriot drivers were pulled over, a few words passed and they were let go.I was not shown the spped I was doing on the camera just told.He then asked me what job I had, I replied I was retired and was not allowed a job anyway. His whole manner then changed to a point of insult and rudness. He wanted to know why I was not working and how I could be retired at my age . He told me I had 30 days to pay or it would be doubled. He asked for my passport and was arrogant when I couln't remember the number as I did not have it on me. When I got home I decided to go to the police station and pay the fine and also make a complaint of his attitude towards me. I was passed from copper to copper only to be told that it's 15 days to pay not 30, seems he was hoping I would have to pay double. CONT:

The woman copper tried to tell me he couldn't speak English which was a load of rubbish as he spoke plenty to me at the time. There is no way you can complain as they are not interested in the Brits only screwing us.I was told pay in 15 days or it will be doubled, if not payed in 30 days go to court end of.I now realise the British are not wanted here only their money and any hand outs we give.

Why not drive at an appropriate speed? Why say you moved here for an easier, more relaxed life and then speed..........then complain when booked?

Oh dear dear, very sorry to hear all that

How about these: http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/55436.asp

You tell me off for not paying and you moan when you do pay. Make up your minds, should you pay or should you not pay?

The truth is that you will not be able to find a single advocate who can do justice to speeding offences. So ı suggest that you either pay up or you come and watch me in court and maybe you can do the same your self next time. My tuition fee is likely to be much higher than the fine you have to pay.

For those who can understand Turkish, here is the Judgement of the Constitutional Court about my speeding and the rights of the Attorney General. This is the proof that I knocked them out for six http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26171843/Anayasa%20ismet%20%C3%BCst%C3%BCner.doc

PS: the next court hearing is Famagusta court Monday 30th May, about 10 am. Not to be missed.

My friend has just been stopped at the border and given 48hrs to report to the police station. We went to kyrenia police and was told it was a traffic offence in a hire car in Iskele near famagusta in 2009 and we had to go there to deal with it. We have now found out that the offence has been dealt with through the courts and a fine imposed of 370tl plus 25 points. The thing is she has never driven to this area in a hired car. It has come to light that a hire company she once used has used her name and licence details for this offence which was committed by someone else they obviously didn't have details for. When this company were approached, did they care, the answer is no, they did not give a damn.

It is about time an official letter is sent to the Attorney's Office to inform them of the fraud.

I think i might have a seeding fine from when I was there 3 weeks age, I did,nt know about the new camera between Mardo,s and the Esentepe turn off and it was dark, I have no probs with paying any fines thats down to me, but I would be very pissed off if I missed my flight back because i was hit with a problem at the border and had to go back, could be time to sell up and take my money else where,
