Some BB members will know I have been promoting inverter driven a/c systems since before, and especially after the recent rises in electricity charges. I was also concerned that some members were being sold systems that they had been told were inverter driven but in fact were not.

I am now advised by Bosch that they will be importing inverter systems into TRNC and that the full range will be available soon.

Typically an 18,000Btu unit will cost 2,300YTL and this compares with around 1,400YTL for a non-inverter system of an equivalent size.

Inverter systems can use up to 60% less electricity than non-inverter but you must expect to pay more to buy them.

For further info please contact me off-board.

Vaughan,

Are you telling me that the current versions of the Bosch Air Con units being sold in the TRNC by Bosch dealers are not currently Inverter types?

Does the term "soft start" and "Inverter" mean the same thing? If they are different are they both "A" cat Electrical appliancies?

Please advise

I have been told by "Bosch TRNC" that a few inverter driven units have been imported to order here. They will "soon" be available off-the-shelf.

The term inverter is well understood in the industry:

Soft start is a bit wooly but is defined as follows:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_start

"A" cat can be applied to inverter or non-inverter as it is a comparison of like for like within a group. Inverter and non-inverter cannot be compared with each other as they fall within different groups.

I would need to see technical data on an a/c unit to tell you whether it was inverter driven or not, however I can tell you that true inverter driven a/c systems can be identified by a lay person by the price differential with non-inverter. You should expect to pay 2 to 3 times as much for inverter.

Hi Mac,

I have taken TRNC Vaughan at face value. I have e mailed Frank Gillen who works for the official Bosch distributor to get clarification. I still await his reply. I will revert once I get clarification. I want the inverter model, but I become concerned when a product is identified by price, and not technical specification.
