The TRNC London office has printed the new duties and taxes based on car engine size for EU origin cars.

At first glance the table looks complicated but if you have a 2 litre car you will pay $5040 plus $504 (10%).

On top of this you might pay an extra 10% of $5040 for Military Fund, Dock Expenses, Stoppage.

And finally you might pay VAT at 20% on the CIF value.

It appears that the duties are not based on the Glasses guide valuation (or am I missing something?).

For the web page click on:

http://www.e-kktc.com/index.php?men=3349&submen=267

then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Figures and percentages of Import Duties of TRNC"

Hope this helps.

I am unsure how they mean to calculate the VAT element.

CIF is obvious - Cost, Insurance and Freight. But how do they detirmine these - and what is the relevance??

It is based (almost identical to) on the system they use in the ROC.

There is some debate as to whether or not the ROC scheme is legal now that they are in the EC (free trade/no import duties/EC residents allowed to freely move their possessions between member states, etc.).

It has been reported that the ROC scheme may cease on 1 January 2009.

Perhaps if there is reunification then this new TRNC may have to cease since we will all be in the EC together.
