I am curious to know as to what type of posts people enjoy on this forum.

Also which type of posts do people dislike.

These are some of the categories of postings. Please add your own.

TRNC general information

TRNC Flight/holiday information

UK Political

TRNC Political

Jokes

Football/Sport

People selling goods in the TRNC

I guess the ones which are labelled 'hot' are the most favoured, but they may just be the postings of a vocal minority, not necessarily the majority

Disclaimer - I am not suggesting any changes to this forum as a consequence of this posting. Just curious

Good idea ILC,

Before my hols in Sep I found the holiday/tourism posts very helpful e.g. car hire, best restaurants/beaches.

After my hols I like to share my experiences with others and try to pass on info as others did to me before I came out.

I also like the general chats/discussions as they tend to be quite lively and interesting.

I try to steer clear of TRNC political threads as I really don’t know enough about the situation to comment and these threads tend to get quite heavy!

I agree some of the 'hot topics' tend to be more popular because there are a few people posting lots of times on them, they tend to be 'villa news' related.

I love talking about sports so enjoy these threads too!

Well that's my tuppence worth!

I like 99% of the threads... most make for interesting discussion, information or good old-fashioned banter....

The ones I don't like are as follows:-

Ones spreading unfounded often hurtful rumours (about others not me) without the honesty to let the subject know who you are....

Ones perpetuating cut 'n' paste Urban Myths that the poster could be bothered to investigate before alarming others... (computer virus/scam warnings that are hoaxes)

Ones from people pretending no connection with a business advertising their goods and services... why not just say it's you and not try to be clandestine? You only end up with egg on your face... which is not good if it's a restaurant!

ILC

I do enjoy the TRNC political as I am able to learn more about Cyprus. Living here for 3 years is not enough to absorb all the information necessary to contribute to a well reasoned argument.

I dislike any post where members or their beliefs/comments are insulted just for the sake of it. It achieves nothing and I find the perpetrator tedious, boring and infantile. (I exclude WUM's from this! LOL)

Joke threads are essential for keeping me sane!

I don't understand why you have put football with sport! Chalk and cheese!

I like the political ones and the ones that give information about the island. I also like to hear about peoples experiences of living/buying/working in Cyprus as it helps steer people in the right direction. Over the last few years I'm sure that this forum has equipped people with the necesssary knowledge and advice to avoid some of the pitfalls. Just look at all the excellent advice we all received about registering of contracts, paying vat, what to do and where to go.

Informing newcomers about the excellent advice given by the HBPG, helping to understand the different title deeds and even those kind members who have offered to go to sites and take pictures so that people can evaluate progress make this the supportive forum it should be.

Hate those posts about peoples spelling and grammer.

Kelsey Grammer is fab... what's wrong with him?

We all make typos... we have to accept it or we'd go barmy... if the sense and or sentiment of what somebody's trying to put across is clear then it's simply rude to try and humiliate them... of course occasionaly a typos leads to a very humorous result and we simply can't resist it... as long as the intent is to have a bit of fun then I don't see too much harm in it...

However deliberately to set out to belittle someone whose use of English is not perfect is at best pointless and probably says more about the inate lack of taste of the responder than it does the target...

Hi Paul,

I do not like postings that attack the person, not the subject.

I do not like people who attack others and thereby deny people a point of view,

I hate bigotry, and people that constantly preach such bigotry.

I do not like people that claim the moral high ground,

I remain committed to the view that people of good faith, will eventually be found to have been the children of the universe!

I stand in awe of those that think morality is the way forward, and even the dull and ignoranrt, whilst having their story, should bow to the common view.

I am with The Cypriot, and not those who feel a need to pay lip service when it suits them.

I am for an AMICABLE settlement for people of good faith. I ask for peace!

I am with The Cypriot and his right to determine his future

I read most threads and try and contribute to the ones Im interested in, some threads I like some I don't but thats the nature of a BB.

I happy if in the main the topics are about Cyprus in general.

The only real dislike is when things get personal and I think the moderators should step in asap and nip it in the bud.

I dislike the majority of posts hence the quarterly log in, nothing seems to change the same trols writting the same stuff, the likes of littlenige, private pike et al need therapy to realise that their is more to life than their desktop and cypruss44, I think Izzet has seen a vast decrease in the number of users over the last 12 months, and will be saddened that his mission and goal for this site has been underminded by a minority of very very sad members of the TRNC community.

wynyardman, you are one of the chosen few and this board does not do you the justice you deserve, everything I have seen you post has been positive and enlightning, unfortunateky we are not in a position to pick and choose the forums and boards we use to give guidance and hope to new comers to the TRNC.

newlad and wynyardman, totally agree that the site is moderated and there are some of us that use the site for the correct purpose, unfortunately the bad apples have made the site almost worthless as a media for quality information and guidance on issues for moving, holidaying or living in th TRNC.

As mentioned in post 39 this will not go away, which is a shame for those that want to use this sit to encourage and help the TRNC's tourism industry.

I agree with Paul, if everyone agreed with each other all the time it would be boring. This is a great forum and I think it works well. When you get people talking together and stating the differences of opinion without slandering each other it shows you that it works well. I particularly enjoy the banter when PP posts, it makes it interesting. I hope the forum continues in it's present format. Well done to everyone who supports it.

No1Doyen,

I could not agree with you more!..If only members would desist from slandering each other

then of course it would enrich the banter. Personal insults and constant backbiting

demean the whole essence of the board, and add little to other members enjoyment.

both sides are correct,i agree the forum of 6-12 months ago had the banter, was much more informative covered all subjects and the main thing nearly all the members had something valid to say and most of these members have disappeared and post rarely including myself

on the other hand the forum has been victim of its own success it has now close to 3000 members which is very good loads of new members that are clueless are learning a thing or two lol, this is good so these people dont make the same mistakes they did aswell as recomending things

for my own summary diffrent strokes for diffrent folks for more experianced posters who have discussed things over and over again threads like football and some other threads are good so we can still post, and like i said before if u know its about football or any other subject u dont like it dont click on it

one small complaint thou why dont all the new members look on the popular tags before posting the same question ten times!!

I like to read most post, ones that don't appeal to me I move onto another to read - ie flicking the TV control onto another channel. What I do find harsh is when messages become personal. As I have posted before, it is very easy to hide behind text to say things that would never be said to someones face, but also its hard to get over when some one is having a laugh and say things tongue in cheek. Sel-a-vie [sorry, not sure I have spelt that right]

UKturk---New members like me are usually pretty stupid when we start using the site but we soon learn. The thing i hate most is the way a thread gets hijacked and then goes and on and on and on with that same old theme it really pisses me off!!!

ukturk msg 50 - "if u know its about football or any other subject u dont like it dont click on it "

That is fine if you know what the topic is. Too many make up such cryptic subject headings that you go into them and find it is a joke, or a subject you are not interested in.

I have no problem with any of the topics per se but if the initiator makes clear what the post is we can avoid it. I remember Izzet actually requested this not so long back so maybe instead of posters having a go at individuals for making comment, they obeyed the rules of the forum we would all be happy.

Also interesting that several comments above have made attacks on individual posters while at the same time saying that individual attacks are out of order. MMMmmmmmmm!!!! This is a free forum and if one wishes to make comment that is up to them and as I have said many times over the years, if you do not like it then do not go there. The answer lies in your own hands.

No personal attacks though. Just a reference to undesireable personality traits, which demean

peoples enjoyment of this board!

I prefer the information and political discussion threads, but a bit of variety doesn't hurt.

One suggestion I have is to make an obvious section to list the items for sale etc and the ability to take them off when sold to help streamline and search this type of thing and keep it seperate to the main section.

ch

even when like u said people post cryptic subject headings it does not take much of your time to realise that it does not intrest you and to click on the back icon

by the sound of your subject heading you dont want football on a north cyprus forum, but then in your post you say u wish subjects threading clearly states wot it means, so if no one clicked on your thread nobody wud have known what you actually meant, which a lot of the new members do cos they havent read the rules and on other occasions people just forget simple as

but its not something really to gripe about im more concerned about insults and personal abuse and to tell you the truth i havent seen any attacks on indivdual posters on any of the above postings

and i agree it is a free forum and anyone is free to comment on what they want and if u dont like it then dont go there which i think is the same as not clicking the button on a thread you dont wont to read, the answer is in your fingers really!!! lol

the most interesting and entertaining posts for me are the ones where people are getting helped with their problems and there is also a bit of tasteful and charactered banter which i do think helps lift the mood somewhat. the authorities really ought to take some positive action against these scammers and thieves and liars that tarnish the emerging trnc.

Aussie, totally agree. Some days the whole of the front page is taken up with items for sale!

I agree with you and Aussie on this aspect. I think CIH has also mentioned this before.
