A 5 year old male Rottweiler dog has been abandoned in kennels by his owners, Serdar Alpakgir and Svetlana Ivanova. They have switched off their phones, not answered emails and when we went to their house at no 9 Kaba Dede Sokak, Ozankoy discovered they have done a runner. The dog will be destroyed this week. If anyone knows where these people are now please contact us. Shame on them!

Oh, but what if a tragedy has happened and no-one knows. Perhaps one of them is seriously ill......

That poor animal, I am upset that they do not seem to have any value here. So many animals discarded like a pair of old shoes.

Does he have to be destroyed? I thought vets here would not do it? Reading this post makes me feel sick.

Suehowlittle. There is a misnomer that Vets with NEVER put an animal down, sometimes there is no alternative. Msg.1, have you any idea if they were working, if so it might be possible to get hold of them there. An awful lot of the Russian girls work in the Casinos, do the neighbours know anymore about them?

Tango1 , no, neighbours said they vacated rapidly on Saturday leaving no forwarding address. Serdar was supposed to be on a business trip in Istanbul. We don't know anymore and as we are so far away it's difficult to investigate further, maybe someone on this forum knows them?

I don't understand why you would want to find them - name and shame YES - but find them? They clearly don't want the dog, so obviously even if they are found, no-one would give them the dog back - you can't sue someone for abandoning a dog; if they had a moral compass, they wouldn't have done it in the first place, so if found and told off - it will be water off a duck's back.

As to putting the dog down. For the dog's sake, and maybe a new owner's? I think it should be put down. No-one knows why they abandoned it. It needs someone with knowledge (not perceived, or self-belief but REAL) knowledge of this breed, to know what is required to keep an animal of this type, and the fear is, it would be taken by someone who just wants to project themselves as powerful via their dog, yet in reality, be unable to cope with its temperament, putting others in danger.

A very sensible message, MsGarnet - the soundest advice possible - such breeds of dog cannot be taken chances with, as we found out when we adopted a cast out German Shepherd that had been used and abused for 'puppy farming' - but that's another story............

The sad thing is that it's not the dog's fault how it turns out - it's the owner's, unless the dog is bred from a 'rogue' bloodline!

I am wondering if it could be Tojo that was stolen a while ago, and they cannot take him back but have done it this way; Sounds bit crazy I know but it would be worth the owner checking it out.

Whistler, no it's not Tojo. This dog is older and we have all the paperwork for it, it came from Istanbul last year.

If Msg.11 is correct, then please note her warning about Hatred of Women. One can only imagine what brought that bad side of him out, not pleasant. Any dog that has a "hatred" of anything, particularly humans, then needs to treated with the utmost care and watched at all times.

If this poor animal has been a guard dog it would be very difficult, and dangerous, to try to turn it into a family pet, I love Rottweilers but they do need to be trained from a young age by someone who knows what they are doing.

As a clearly damaged dog - through no fault of its own - surely the ONLY thing to do, is put it down!!!!!! Who could be part of re-homing it, to then hear down the line, it has maimed or killed someone (as the Island has clearly shown a dog is NOT for life for a huge amount of owners).

For the dog's sake - euthanase it now.
