Hi,

Can anybody please tell me what the rules and regs of taking a dog out of North Cyprus back to the UK. We have a couple of rescue dogs about 6 years old and would like to find out how much it would cost to transport a dog back home, how long it takes and how long the quarantine period would be.

Presuming all the innoculations are up to date what is the first thing we have to do. Many Thanks for your replies in advance.

Cheers oddjob.

well done ukturk!

we agree twice in one day it must be a record!

defra in the uk are the only people who can give you the correct information.

things do change from time to time so check with them.

also speak to the trnc vetenary department who will advise you what you need from this end.

Take care if you get as far as booking the dogs.

Not all KTHY planes have pressurized holds, only the 737's, the Airbus's are not pressurized. When we looking into bringing cats from UK, were told that they can only confirm 24 hours before flight.

Turkish use all 737's.

Also do homework on destination airport, STN have very limited vet facilities, they will only allow one animal per flight out, maybe same for landing, best to check, may be better option going to Heathrow or Gatwick, whichever available.

Good lick with it.

Check with Margaret Ray at KAR.

The last conversation I had with her earlier this year. The UK were possibly relaxing the rules to pre 2004 ( when the south entered the EU). Before then you could take a dog into the UK on a TRNC pet passport.

The cost od beinging a medium or large dog (greater than 25kgs) is around £2000 per animal.

The paper trail is long but not insurmountable and for sending documents to the TRNC from UK use DHL to ensure they arrive.

Knowing a Turkish Speaker who can help you at the airport end would be a huge advantage as to getting boxes for your animals transported.
