A friend of mine has a two year old labradordoodle, he has had the run of downstairs and never had a problem. Suddenly, he decided he was too frightened to pass a certain point in the kitchen and each time he tried just trembled and wimpered.......the only thing that was different that day was the owner had dug up a very old glass bottle with stopper and had left it on the side..............when the bottle was moved the dog then moved freely past it, can anyone shed light on this or has heard of anything similar............

Try putting the bottle somewhere else, preferably out of sight. If the dog still reacts, get rid of the bottle.

It is more than likely a olfactory thing... he smells something he associates with something he's scared of... maybe snakes or other guitarists!

We have a Westie and when we are out walking him, he will not go down a certain path in the woods behind our house. He has never been out there alone and nothing has ever happened to him when we have had him out. I think they either sense danger or maybe something happened there.

In my teens(many years ago) my friend lived in a country Hall which had been converted to apartments. Her dog refused to go in the kitchen -even for it's food or tempting treats.turned out to be haunted! -the cornflake box would suddenly fly across the room, cupboard doors would open /close when no-one was near them! The family moved and the dog was fine after that. WIERD!!

Seems like a golden opportunity for a little wealth gathering - Rub the bottle and then remove the cork!!!!!!!

My daughter had a lovely horse which would not pass a bottle bank! Not even an aniseed ball as coaxing would he pass one. Led to many long diversions. (Lived in a town at the time) We thought when we moved to the country that there would not be so many but it was worse, every flipping village had a bank of them.

Goodness only knows why he would be scared of them. Do you think he could smell the beer/wine etc?

I think that is the answer Groucho, once the bottle was moved he was fine, and he had been 100% fine right up to last sunday when the bottle was dug up and put on the side............I think you may have hit the nail on the head and it is the smell that reminds him of something nasty..........the bottle is now in the shed!!
