Hi i am planning on going to north cyprus in july. But i am slightly concerned about being forced into national service. My grandparents are from North Cyprus, but they moved to England where my father was born, and i was also born in England.

Can anyone Clarify what the rules are? Do i need an exit visa?

Or does anyone know who i can call to find out more information?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Ben

Are your family Turkish Cypriot? Do you have a kimlik? Are you a TRNC citizen?

You would do best to talk with the UK consulate section for the TRNC at 32 Bedford Square and rely on here-say of any kind.

msg 1;

You are allowed to spent 90 days per year in TRNC,any more then that and you'd be eligable for national service.

Thanks for your help.

but do you know if i need to get an exit visa, even if it is less than 90 days?

i am under the impression that i need to go to one of the military offices in Nicosia and fill out a form to get an exit visa? else i cant leave

Does any one know if this is true?

brv1987 you will need on arrival in the TRNC to vist the ASAL ŞUBE office in Lefkosha. They will give you the paper that allows you to visit for 90 days in a given 12 month period. This is not a vias but a document from the military saying you are excused service duties if you only visit for less than 90 days in a year. You will probalby first have to goto police station to get a print out showing how many times you have entered and left the TRNC so they can see if you have broken the 90 day limit. You need to do this every time you visit the TRNC. At least that is what I had to do when I used to visit. When I came to live I could no longer use the 90 day exception and had to do my service (reduced because I was 'returning' TC, my age and because I paid to have it reduced even more).

this thread may help

brv1987 you do need to get the paperwork done when you are here to avoid any problems. If you want give me a call when you get here. I can show you where the Asal Sube office is and even take you there if you need. I dont speak turkish however so you might want to go with a relative who does if you have any to hand. Anyway my number is 0090 (0)392 8155016. I live in Kyrenia.

erolz is correct ,i am flying to cyprus tomorrow with my middle son and have to get the paper work for him to be able to leave ,firstly go to the post office and buy a 7tl stamp then take it to your local police station and tell them it,s for asal sube and your cikis kart ,then the next day take the paperwork to lefkosa asal sube ,when you get there take your ticket with your number on it and give them your paperwork ,they will do the rest ,they will issue you with your exit papers ,which will enable you to enter the country for 60 days and exit.

it used to be 90 days ,but they have now changed it.

keep the paperwork in a safe place as you willl need it every time you enter the country' good luck.
