What does it mean when the pressure gauge on the filter rises to almost the yellow area, when normally it is halfway on the green area.

Thanks

Hi Bazilbrush.

Ideally your pressure should be somewhere between 15-20 PSI so there is good circulation without too much pressure on pipe fittings and equipment, yellow area seems a little high, when did you last do a backwash?.

it is common for pressure gauges exposed to the elements to fail and read wrong sometimes. Some people replace their gauges yearly, they are not expensive. Most manufacturers suggest cleaning or backwashing the filter when pressure is 10 PSI higher then normal. Note that a high backpressure can reduce the efficiency of the filter as well.

If you have not done a backwash for some time,do a backwash and you should get back down to 15-20psi or back into the green which you seem to be happy with.

Ok thanks guys for the info will try that first before I change the gauge. I already use Zerochlor, and life is so much easier now without inhaling chlorine evertime I open the bucket.

I assume you mean it has gradually risen nearly to the yellow band, even after backwashing. This may indicate that the sand in your filter is starting to form into lumps due to sun block and other non-soluble cosmetics. How old is the sand? If it's over 3-4 years old, it's worth changing it anyway.

That would of been my next advise to you,its difficult to consult over the internet without seeing what were discussing,so by elimination starting with a backwash we can get your gauge back to the correct reading,if not, then as vaughan says, time to check the sand if its older than 3-4 years.
