Over the last few days KAR have had lots of puppies go in to the Centre. The amount of puppies that they have is now having a serious effect on the space available for other dogs which need to go into the Centre (eg accident cases).

Although they are all lovely there are 3 seperate litters of Cyprus Terrier puppies that they are desperately seeking homes for - they are real sweeties !

The 14 puppies from these litters are various colours - white/black/brown/beige - and are aged between 6 - 8 weeks. They will make ideal family pets.

Please if there is anyone out there who could home them KAR would love to hear from you. You can visit the Centre to see the puppies (and dogs and cats) any day from 9.00am to 1.00pm.

If you need any other info please contact the office on 0533 8694098.

Please please please put them down. They haven't lived a long life - barely at all........statistics in TRNC prove that some of the 14, maybe the majority, if homed, will end up abandoned, malnourished or dumped......do them and the Island a favour, put them to sleep before they learn what a life of misery is all about.....

Against my better judgement, and being a lifelong dog owner, I think message 2 is right.

Ms Garnet - i appreciate your comments and, apart from the other members who have already responded, i know that there are others who share the same view about this emotive issue.

The situation with the puppies (and dogs/cats etc) and euthanasia is not a simple one nor does it have a simple straight forward solution. It has been raised at length on numerous threads before .

KAR can only do so much - they do what they can given the situation that they face. Unfortunately the "so much" is not enough for all the strays here.

Hamish - it is obvious what an invidious position you are in. We are also dog lovers - but my daughter's pup dying so horribly from poison someone left on the ground intentionally in Girne, broke her heart - doubt we will ever get another dog. I simply now believe that euthanasia in TRNC needs to be widely carried out - and anyone wanting to breed their animals be required to get permission and show a guaranteed list of prospective owners of said resulting pups, and those new owners sign a declaration that if they leave the Island, they take their pets with them. I also believe all pet owners should have the chance to have their animals spayed or neutered for free (paid for by the Government) simple solutions that could reduce such heartache for humans and animals alike. If only a cull could be legally organised too.......the date broadcast a week ahead, and any animals found on a set day, outside of homes - rounded up and euthanised.

Dear Hamish,

Just wanted to say good luck with finding the little ones homes.

MsGarnet - As one dog lover to another, please dont take this the wrong way, I hope what I write is clear and everyone understands. I have three crazy girls at home and take care of two/becoming five! at work....I fear for them all and would be absolutely devasted if anything (especially the torture of poison) happened to them. But as I said to my mum, coz she mentioned if anything did she would not take in another...I would and why you ask after such devastation!! Crazy!! because nothing can bring them back just like a human...It would eat me up inside BUT why would I leave others (no homed/abandoned) to suffer if I feel their being mistreated or if I can help.

I love my three to bits and give them all my love!! ask anyone....would kill me to c anything happen to them but I would take another as they deserve a chance.

Just my view

Thank you

Good luck!
