Good to see the once-powerful Turkish military is now under the control of a democratically-elected government. That may account from the marked troop reduction in north Cyprus.

I wouldn't want to be skulking behind the somewhat shaky "protection" of the regime in the TRNC right now...

About bloody time. Let's hope they lock them all up. Let it be a lesson to any budding fascist soldier to do his job rather than try to run the country.

mmmmmm,

Hard to say, but military traffic convoys and soldiers off-duty seem to have reduced in visibility by about half in the past 10 years I've been around N Cyprus. So unless they're being confined to barracks or spirited away for their own R&R, Turkish troop numbers would appear to have been cut. You also used to see them out on live firing exercises and manoevres almost every day. That just doesn't seem to happen as much now. Whether they needed them back home in the south-east or whether it was for some political reason, who knows.

Dutch, now I understand why the Boers were the way they were. And look where they ended up. Have you not learned anything from the past?

▶ What have I got to do with "the Boers"..?! Many of them were/are religious fanatics, who left Holland centuries ago. Why don't you start your history lessons with the conquest of Cyprus by the Ottoman Turks, the proven forefathers of you and many other Cypriot Turks? Without them you wouldn't be a Cypriot Turk - the Boers are in South Africa without me. See the difference?

I would have been born in Cyprus with or without them. What difference does it make what I am. I am a Cypriot first and foremost. I can also converse in Greek and if TMT did not ban Greek in schools I would have been able to read and write greek too.

Nationality makes no difference to me. People and their wellfare does.

troop reductions?

if it is so, well there are two ways of looking at it:

either the republic of "cyprus" is calculated not to try anything stupid,

after all, there have been precious few incidents these last ten years

or in line with best practice, with attack helicopters, and soon the f-35

stealth fighter becoming available, it will hardly be necessary to keep

to the sort of numbers on the ground before the situation solidified

so mmmmmm's you should be glad if there is progress in reductions,

but zoots don't count your sand grouse before they've hatched
