Would be interested to know if anyone in TRNC uses this system as an alternative to Chlorine for treatment of swimming pool water.

This is a chlorinator where salt is turned into chlorine through electrolysis, with UV turning the chlorine back into salt.

Unfortunately, the very hard water here is heavy going on the cells, unless you keep them clean by soaking them in acid frequently. They also need to run for up to 12 hours a day, meaning the pool pump has to run at the same time. The cost of electricity here is now too expensive to make chlorinators a cost effective way of treating your pool.

The Aligator system http://www.aligator.co.uk costs about the same as a chlorinator but the cells are not effected by the hard water and they only need to run for half the time of a chlorinator.
