I'm away on Wednesday, so a bit early: "Good morning" all! Maybe one of your ancestors helped with the building of the place, maybe he was one of the soldiers or officers of Richard the Lionheart's Anglo/French army (1191, conquest of Cyprus)? Or maybe the first stones were laid by Byzantine workers before them? We just don't know and probably never will... But it's such a beautiful, intriguing place - and only a couple of miles away from your villa or holiday village in TRNC! You must go there one day. But for now: enjoy the picture of a fascinating medieval fairy tale...

Thanks again, Hans....I'm sure I'm not the only one appreciating these photos and their history.

@ msg 3, Rottolover: On this board it's not the quantity of the views, it's the quality of the viewers. Thank you very much for your feedback!

The location of the "Forgotten Fourth Fortress" is not clear to several interested people so I've added a location map to this subject in my web site "All About All Crusades".

Click on the link "Map of region" (text in blue).

Thank you Hans. We managed to find the castle after one false climb - it was a matter of "its behind you". I think we did not expect it to be such a good track and I had written down 6.9k not 6.7k. Its not a difficult or long walk if anyone is thinking of doing it and well worth the trip. Just remember the road closes at 16.30 if you think it would be nice to do it late afternoon!

@ msg 11, Kath: Glad you did it and obviously liked it, Kath! And... if you are after a nice walk on a medieval path from the "Forgotten Fourth Fortress" - check the info at the bottom of this web page:

▶ By the way: more detailed location maps on that page also..!
